It's an interesting idea but would likely not change much and possibly make things worse for people since it would be used as an excuse to roll back medicaid, pell grants, etc. Then poor people would be left with their basic income and their continued lack of any sort of education/experience in how to manage their lives in even basic ways. That would likely mean poor people end up worse off and other people who have no sympathy for the poor would be able to, somewhat truthfully, claim it's all just the poor people's fault.
