Disagree on the "live outside" part. If your dog is outside and someone wants to break into your home, they can eliminate your dog without alarming anyone asleep before gaining entry.
With my dogs inside, anyone trying to get inside will cause them to start the barking, alerting everyone asleep, if they then try to break in they'll have to deal with the dogs plus us at the same time.

Not sure about raw meat. Buying them premium pelletized food actually is pretty good for them. People that I've known who used it for their dog's life affirm that their dog's physical health is top notch along with their mental health as well, of course with proper exercise, affecton and walks.

We didn't start feeding our dogs "dog food" until late industrialization, and they were just as healthy before that.

Which still leaves the intruder or intruders time to take the dog out before coming for you. Being able to defend you home alongside your dog or dogs puts you in a better position for survival.

Sorry, I didn't mean to deny the alternative, I'm not sure about raw meat cause I've never met someone that keeps their dogs under such diet and haven't researched. Just saying that premium pellet food is alright.
I'd actually experiment with giving the doggies some cattle liver once a week alongisde with the dog food, would probably be very good for them.

I can't hear my dogs barking outside and even then, they bark at the neighbor dogs all the time. You would not treat that like a burglar. But inside the bedroom if they start barking you know someone is at the door or something out of the normal is happening.
