We don't know who will replace Merkel from within the CDU or whether or not it will be the even-worse Ursula von der Leyen. This could trigger a walk-out by the CSU and the collapse of the ruling coalition which would mean new elections. This means that the AfD will get more seats, but not enough for a majority, and there will likely be no coalition. This means if there is another crisis, the government will have to vote on every single issue and be less able to make fast, emergency decisions. It will also rapidly increase our political instability.
