Ive lived in WV as a youth, and still spend a decent amount of time there, backpacking and camping. I would never move there though...there is a reason no native americans lived there; theres some spooky shit in them hills!

West Virginian here. I've lived in WV for nearly 30 years.

Your best bet is to live somewhere between Huntington and Charleston. The Valley actually has quite a few doctors, lawyers, business owners, accountants, etc. Kids driving Mercedes and so on.

Morgantown can be nice, but Pittsburgh is nearby. Parkersburg is okay. Wheeling is okay. We have awesome outdoors.

Certain parts of the state are not very wealthy. Opiod abuse is a problem, but if you don't look for it, you're not going to find it. Crime is real low. If you care about race, the state is super white. The only places with anything other than whites are km Huntington and Charleston. (A few college students in Morgantown.)

The biggest issues is just the job market, but you'll never feel a recession if you live here lol. However, we have a low cost of living.
