A useful categorization for European peoples that Jews in the USA started to use. It's hardly justifiable to jew, say American-Latvians, but if you lump them into the category of 'majority whites', they're suddenly all-powerful former slavemasters etc. American whites slowly began to see themselves as 'white americans', instead of just Italian Americans, or Irish Americans.

Being whit is very different in the US. In Asia, or even Philippines people know who is Asian, who is white, who is black, and no one argues.
In the USA people who look white think white is an insult, and dark people think white is a badge of honour.
