Incorrect, a majority of the problems stemmed from the Dublin Administration (if we're talking after a time when we can say we actually ruled "Ireland" and not "part of Ireland" which makes it during the 1600s, not including the Nine Years War, or even into the late 1700s) who were quite inept and unable to manage much outside Dublin. Failure to grant concessions to Catholics until Pitt and O'Connell also didn't help. Ironically enough the closest target of our power and might to Britain itself is the one we arguably fucked up running the most.

The fact is we have more of a shared history with Braitain than we do with any other country in Europe, even if most of that is a bad history. Brits are our largest immigrant population and they are treated as equals for the moment they arrive here. By equal I mean they have the same rights and entitlements as an Irish citizen from day one. No other countries citizens are treated as fairly as them. Also the length and breath of the country holds the graves of Irishmen who fought alongside Britain. Most Irish people these days don't have a bitter hatred for Britain or brits and a lot us actually see through some of the nonsense and realize that we are more like brits than anybody else on the continent.
