The original story is pretty close. The boys were hot and wanted to change the policy to allow shorts. The school said no. So to peacefully protest, the boys all showed up in skirts (since skirts were allowed by the policy), and they had a photo op to bring public awareness to the situation. So this wasn't initiated by the school to make boys wear skirts or anything like that. It's just the school refusing to budge on allowing shorts for men.

Something like this happened at my highschool, but the school caved and let shorts be part of the uniform.

It's just a lie. It's been shilled before.
The school did not ban shorts in favour of skirts.
Shorts were never allowed and when a parent was given the guidance on school uniform policy and saw that their little precious couldn't wear shorts on a warm day but also saw that it said boys could wear a skirt this BS was born.
