Why is the government so obsessed with illegal Mexican immigration when it has been steadily declining for years now? Illegal immigration from Mexico reached a 17 year low last year due to the American economy being so shitty that even illegals can't find work here. It's misleading to focus on Mexicans alone. The US by law is allowed to turn Mexicans back, but must receive Central Americans into the country for processing. Most of these illegal immigrants getting in these days are not Mexican, but Central Americans.

This is bullshit. I live in Alabama and their numbers are increasing literally every day. I've been here since 2005 and the increase is ridiculous. You used to see a few here and there but now they're literally taking over entire towns and are brazen about it. They have a huge 'iglesia' in the next town over from me with about 250 illegals attending on a given Sunday. How they fuck are they ending up in Alabama of all places? How do they even know about Alabama?

Deportation numbers massively shot up in obama's second term because he ordered the DHS to reclassify catch-and-release as deportation. For reference, catch-and-release refers to the practice in catching someone in the process of crossing the border and ejecting them back on the mexican side without trial. So while these people are never counted in census data as mexican immigrants to the US, they would from that point on be counted as mexicant immigrants from the US (while they should have been counted as net neutral). He intentionally performed this stat manipulation to quell anti-immigration sentiment and undermine the talking points of immigration hardliners while still allowing unfettered illegal immigration.
The unintended result was that the bump in "deportation" numbers caused them to exceed the entry estimate. However, instead of admitting that they fucked up the stats they went ahead with the original plan and now pretend like there was net-negative illegal migration.
