Waiting times. The US system is bad, but not because of capitalism but because of state interference. It takes 3 months to get an MRI of the bowel here in Germany, even if critical for treatment decisions. I paid 500 euros out of pocket and got an appointment within 48hrs. One thing to take into account is that nordic countries have 9,6,5 million people and they also own the hospitals etc.
It's really way more realistic to start on a state level and start incrementally.
Build a hospital for cancer and then give free cancer treatment and so on.
It's crazy to think that the federal goverment could ever do a good job with healthcare.
The politcal system is also way to rigid to carry out the reforms your eventually will need.

I have sought healthcare in two countries. In America, land of the free home of the brave, I was able to call a doctor, get an appointment for the next day, get my treatment/medicine, pay the man, and be on my way.

In the Netherlands, I had to call a dozen doctors offices to find one where I both lived within their designated area and they weren't full (apparently after they have a few people sign up, they quit taking any new patients). Once I finally found one, I had to make an appointment for the next week to go show them my ID, fill out their paperwork, and make an appointment to come back 10 days later to actually see the doctor.

Wait times in the US are low. In Germany they are high. In the UK they are sky high. In the UK people who are diagnosed with cancer have to fly to other countries to get treated, because in the UK there are waiting times to even meat an oncologist of 6 months and longer.

The reason probably is that the dentist system has been historically privately paid in Germany.
