It's human nature to fight over each over differences. Even the most stupidest of things. People kill each other over streets, football teams, beliefs, etc.. Skin colour/race is the biggest difference amongst each other. People will always cling to their own and oppose what's different. That's why there's such a big push on race mixing now. I would think of the USA not as one house, but many houses. Those houses fought eachother before we got here.
So there were a number of houses in New England. When Europeans came, many of the people who lived in those houses died of new diseases the Europeans brought. Others fought with the Europeans and lost to them. Others traded their houses to the Europeans. Some of the houses were basically empty until Europeans moved in. Who does the house belong to now?

That being said, no matter the answers to the above, if this happened I think a lot of us would be willing to abandon these houses. And those of us who don't want to leave, might be persuaded as many of the other whites leave. They don't want to be the last white house on the block, because it's just going to be another Zimbabwe.
