The big media companies are all for upload filters and link taxes. They want an internet that goes back to how things were in the 1990s. People passively consume content on various media outlets and that is it. No comments, no user content, no discussions,... no problems.
Please consider signing the petition against internet censorship - it might do shit nothing, but it is a small thing we can actually do, to get this to at least 1 million

This has happened before, here in Germany we introduced a link tax which killed all Google competitors... and youtube already uses upload filters to censor people. This is going on right now. At this point I'm quite sure there's some technicality that we're not getting here, like the Net Neutrality thing. On the other hand the actual implementation of the law is on the hands of each country's own Government, and the Italian Supreme Court has already chimed in claiming link taxes etc. to be unconstitutional.

Name one thing that is non-profit. Jow Forums isn't. Wikipedia isn't either, they get donations and thus monetarize content as per the copyright proposal. There is literally no popular content sharing website on the internet which wouldn't be required to implement automatic upload filters for "non-profit" purposes.

Not how it works. Every rightsholder (or alleged rightsholder) can submit any claim to any online website based on the proposal. There doesn't even have to be a copyright violation in the first place.
So what will happen is that you create an automatic system where a law firm can send out claims for any copyrighted material for their clients to all websites operating in the EU. Of course, as 99% of those websites cannot afford to role their own compliant system, there will be a centralized censorship system run by some company (probably Google or Facebook) which will offer its censorship services to the little guys... which pay for it.
Anyway, the idea that only the big guys are targeted here is absolutely ridiculous. This is what people said about the GDPR, and now guess what, it is all the small guys which have range blocked EU residents, not the big guys.
