Rural and urban upbringings are factors too. In a rural environment you learn a lot of skills to save money because there's not much to go around. In an urban setting you have an easier access to money but face a lot more financial traps. Like if you eat out all the time you'll end up spending way more than if you cook at home and bring your lunch to work. Rural people understand that, urban, not so much. The same goes for anything related to basic mechanic, electrician, plumber, carpenter skills, etc... Most rural guys knows how to do "men's jobs" while the rural guy will call a pro and pay a high price. Urban living is a slave trap and that's where they want all of us to be. It's good for real estate but not for the people in general.
