Think about it. The wealthy (disproportionately whites and jews) can also draw on a variety of affirmative-action programs designed just for them. As Daniel Golden points out in The Price of Admission, legacy-admissions policies reward those applicants with the foresight to choose parents who attended the university in question. Athletic recruiting, on balance and contrary to the popular wisdom, also favors the wealthy, whose children pursue lacrosse, squash, fencing, and the other cost-intensive sports at which private schools and elite public schools excel. The mother lode of all affirmative-action programs for the wealthy, of course, remains the private school. Only 2.2 percent of the nation’s students graduate from nonsectarian private high schools, and yet these graduates account for 26 percent of students at Harvard and 28 percent of students at Princeton. The other affirmative-action programs, the kind aimed at diversifying the look of the student body, are no doubt well intended. But they are to some degree merely an extension of this system of wealth preservation. Their function, at least in part, is to indulge rich people in the belief that their college is open to all on the basis of merit.

Affirmative action is artificial. It also disproportionately discriminates against whites and asians while jews are given a free pass (67% of Harvard). Yes, blacks were oppressed for most of America's history, but there's been a lot of reform there and they more or less have the same opportunity to build their communities up (like the whites did when they first came to this continent with nothing on it), but there's a cultural problem.
tl;dr whites/jews/asians do well because their ancestors worked hard and planned ahead to make their childrens' lives better; affirmative action does nothing to solve the issues in the black community, it just treats a symptom, and treats it poorly (AA recipients underperform and it contributes to anti-black bias)

"White" is a meme race. It's a factually incorrect delimiter of race, it encompasses too many haplotypes and cultures to be considered a single race. Every time you use the term "white" you diminish a minority group's identity, and all the suppositions you hang on "white" identity are false. So in essence, the notion of "centuries of affirmative action for white" is completely invalid. Your central point has been refuted. Your entire argument is defused.
Because no one here is over 200 years old. Most here aren't racist or didn't hurt Black people. You shouldn't punish someone over their race, you punish the person. If that doesn't make logical sense, then I don't know what does.
The overreaction from poltard and why all these race discussions pique my interest so much is because it's irrational. The white people here go through the day, waiting in the same lines, making low grades, or getting rejected from jobs. And they are told they get preferred treatment. Yet, they see how African Americans who clearly aren't interested in science and technology as much (be honest there was only 1 or 2 black nerds in your highschool).
So telling me I'm some great white beneficiary is infuriating. It makes no logical sense. I haven't been promoted to middle class at all and if it was my skin color, they skipped me. Yet the argument is about skin color rather than economic inequality.

Affirmative action is fucking stupid because it's putting a bandaid on the flu and crying "LOOK! WE FIXED IT! THANK YOU FOR THE TAX DOLLARS!" If I take a black student who does not score high enough on the entrance exam to warrant placement at Harvard (which, by the way, I "promise" you is a status symbol and nothing more), and I let them in anyway and push them down the conveyor belt without actually forcing them through the same challenges that other students go through every day, at whatever pace they must, while facing whatever external difficulties they must, I have compounded the problem rather than rectifying it. So, what ends up happening? I end up with a graduate who, quite probably, doesn't have very much more knowledge about their field or the world at large than a high school student. This person can now go into an office job, where he/she will be responsible for the paychecks of less fortunate people. This person can go into education, where they will rear the next generation of students with about the same amount of competence that a child in that same age group could manage, or they can go into a government admin, where they will spend the rest of their lives merely pretending to work while praying that nothing bad ever happens to their cushy position.
I was turned down for transfer into my town's state uni, a comp sci program. I had a 3.5, 3.8 or higher would've been necessary to make it likely (just because professors are short and it's a high-demand program). My life was not good when I was going to college. Leaving the state was out of the question. I'm the child of a single mother, crazy, stupid, adopted a bunch of kids, married a pedophile at one point, all compounded by autism. I just had a time of it. It was a wonder I managed to do as well as I did. But I got turned down, and it was good for me, because it forced me to sort what needed to be sorted out first.
