As a Venezuelan expat myself, you have no idea how much I agree with your words. we thought we could prevent the totalitarian takeover in a non-violent way at first, by protesting and debating our enemy, now that a lot of venezuelans are starting to realize that a bloody civil war is the only solution for our predicament they're also realizing that it is futile at this point and that we already lost our war a long time ago.
Sadly, the average american, just like us at one time, is not willing to throw away his 9 to 5 job, his internet access, going out with his friends partying on weekends etc and risk life and limb for a cause they only half believe in, because deep inside they refuse to believe things will get that bad in the future, cause that would mean that if they do nothing now, they'll only have themselves to blame for their own misery in the future.
My personal advice, for anyone who doesn't have the stomach or the will to take drastic measures to ensure your country's long term survival, just sell your stuff, pack your things and make plans to emigrate somewhere else, and pray that wherever you decide to settle doesn't fall prey to the same evil
