Im in my mid 40’s. Five months ago I was overweight bordering on obese, with the muscle tone of a ten year old manlet. I finally said fuck this shit, and started working out. I do twenty minutes of moderate cardio followed by lifting for just one hour, three days a week. Im now ten pounds lighter overall, but I’ve put on about ten pounds of muscle. I went from benching 60lbs to 110lbs. I went from dipping 80lbs to dipping full body weight (190ish.) I’ve basically doubled the amount of weight I can lift with any given muscle group. Thats all in around four hours of exercise per week. I’ve barely even changed my eating habits at all. Its waay easier than I thought it would be. I just keep telling myself that working out is not optional, and I owe it to myself to be the strongest I can be. So far so good.

Oh absolutely! I’m trying to avoid changing too many things to quckly. My new approach is to change one thing at a time until the new behavior becomes habit, then move on to the next thing. I feel like it reduces the likelyhood of falling off the wagon completely.

I do neck curls off the bench with a plate held on the forehead, 3 sets to near failure and two more unweighted to failure. I also do a lot of targeted traps work for the back of the neck also 3x/week.
The main muscles for curls are the sternocleidomastoid which attaches at the base of the skull behind the ear and runs to the collar bone. This is a big muscle and gives frontal width. The traps connect at the base of the skull in back.
Now you could hit the neck from more angles than this but meh. I would only stress reverse curls if you have forward head posture or if you develop it from a training imbalance.
