simply buying and sitting on index funds was too hard for boomers, so they turned real estate in to an "investment" and all their money is tied up in overpriced houses that millenials can't afford to buy
they're screwed over the next decade as they all try to retire but young people can't afford to buy their homes from, or simply don't want to as all the good careers get concentrated in fewer areas
the bigger story is that in order to have a meager retirement you need to be a millionaire now
