Im deep in the north, I have not seen one fucking EU stamp anywhere, the roads are a fucking mess full of potholes since half the town are unemployed since the coal mines and steel mills shut down. There are a lot of people who did to get the sort of reaction you've given in this post. Millions upon millions of Brits either benefited nothing from the EU or were actively harmed by it. If we get no deal or a bad deal and tariffs exist between us an Europe again, then that means UK steel will become a more attractive option. This also puts difficulties on the EU-based steel manufacturers who prosper from our steel imports. Yes, tariffs will make some things more expensive. Our crops might not sell in EU as much as they do now. Luckily China is a massive food importer and we will have a much easier time agreeing agricultural trade deals with China (and other nations) as 1 nation than as 1 of 28. Before income tax was instituted in the 1840s, the overwhelming majority of government revenue was tariffs on foreign goods, even at the much lower levels of international trade occurring back then. Who gets hit the hardest by tariffs on imported goods? I'll give you a clue. It's not Paul Northerner drinking his "european" lagers (brewed under license in the UK) or purchasing his fuel from North Petrol Stations Ltd and their fuel from Scottish or northern England refineries. It's not your typical lower-middle class person who consumes vast quantities of exotic imported vegetables and fruits, or buys huge amounts of luxury consumer imported goods. Of course he enjoys these things, but not nearly to the extent of the upper-middle class. No, the people who will pay the most if tariffs on imported goods become the norm are not the Brexit voters.
