It's hard to push it further from our end. America, despite being a collapsing mess of a ZOG system, is still extremely strong. With Trump's election, I personally believe that we've entered into the great decline and fall of the American Empire. Within the next three or four decades, the weight of all of its sins will finally push America into a collapse. To know how you might help it along, you have to know what will cause it to collapse.
There are three issues which, when combined, have enough power to shatter the US. 1. The national debt. 2. The economy. 3. Race. So all we have to do is to make all of these more toxic, less open. The debt must continue to soar, not repayments allowed. America will default, and that will be what kills it in the end. The economy will further putrefy. I recommend an assault rifle. As for ammo, get a lot of it. You'll need to practice shooting. For the actual war itself, it depends. For evenly matched fighting, you'll probably die before you shoot 3 mags. But if you're planning civilian massacres, you'll need lots and lots of ammo

I don't think this will play out the way most people do, so my advice is to prepare the same way you would for any natural disaster. Have some food and water on hand for your household. Keep cooking tools on hand that don't require electrical power. Know and trust your neighbors, and if you can't consider getting new neighbors. Stay calm and confident with regard to your situation. Consult an Army manual with regard to setting up water filters and other improvised tools. Think of it like a long term camping exercise. Also get a cleaning kit and basic spare parts so that you can keep it functioning when it comes time to fight. Nothing later than your $1,200 rifle and $2,000 of ammo being useless because your firing pin broke.
I recommend you get a Tokarev as that can punch through a good deal of vests. In terms of rifles, it really depends on the environment, an AR-15 is a good default choice as it’s insanely common here and you’ll have a better chance of finding ammo and parts once SHTF.
I also recommend you get a bolt action rifle if you plan to blend in more.

Yeah, if a civil war were to start, the rebels and aggressors would probably come from the left. What amazes me is that they are the most logistically vulnerable and overall less martial than the loyalists. Just look at the chaos that happened down here with the truckers on strike. Now imagine if American right wing truckers -which from my experience from being half American from corn country is the majority- simply refused to deliver shit to liberal areas, the rebels would face starvation and worse, the population in rebel areas would probably turn loyalist pretty fucking quickly like the sheeple they are.
