All statistics show 1941 was the WORST year in terms of k/d for the germans for every year except the very end of 1945 (which was still positive) on the eastern front. In fact, the k/d ratio of the german army rose through 1944 before plumetting in 1945 (though it remained a fair bit above 1 to 1)

Turns out k/d doesn't win wars. When the germans were "reckless" (and they were a bit reckless, if you see it as a manpower attrition warfare) they were making huge gains in territory. Yet when they were having very good loss ratios (even when adjusting for the population discrepancy with the USSR), they were nearly always on the retreat.

But yeah, no. The germans had an above 1:1 k/d until the very end of the war; they only dipped under that if you adjust for the size of the USSR.

I think this only emphasizes how in the end, the human resources of Germany were squandered by making improper decisions and changing strategy midway due to a flawed perception of the reality of the war on the side of Hitler.
