I'm by no means a christian, but fuck me do these hymns keep me sharp and inspired on the path. Does there even exist a thing similar in the pagan world that can equal this level of absolute majesty?

wow trio mediaeval rules, thanks. the arabic one is fucking garbage.
Yes, Hymns are simple and pure music based on thousands of years of the living tradition. They fill the heart with hope. As you sing you pray. The degenerate clears out when the hymn sounds out.

Maybe not the majesty you're looking for, but it's the sound of another age.
yes, i am familiar with this. wardruna, forndom, heilung, nytt land, otyg, etc ... all extremely soulful, but not exactly majestic.
all of this style seems forced and mechanical to me ...
Depends what youre into I guess. All of these hymns/compositions come from church and folk traditions. I"m not a big fan of the over produced stuff with modern instruments personally. This stuff is much more enjoyable to sing with others in church though.
lol. im actually kinda into the epic power metal cringe. listened to a lot of blind guardian, hammerfall, and stratovarius as a kid. will give these albums a listen. thanks
READ THE BIBLE.
hmmm .. i think im more of a kind of three piece sort of chamber music style guy. if i dont feel like i can reproduce a thing as part of my own hermitage study then its hard for me to take it seriously. if unable to integrate into personal practice. which is why the minimalist pure vocal hymns or the more primitive folkish style appeals to me nicely
You have good taste friend
I think that is the great thing about hymns. You can essentially take the top line/melody and sing it solo or harmonize it with any instrument, and it will still be noticeable as that tune. Some of the bach examples for instance hold true for this. The melodies were very strong simple tunes that everyone in the community knew and could sing. Bach just added extra voice/lines to it.
hm ok. I'll have to train my ears a little to hear it this way then. will approach them again with this in mind. thank you

ORTHODOXY OR DEATH
I agree with you, but that inverted pentacle in the stained glass either means that cathedral was made by operative masons with fucked up ideas or the painter is fucked up
Salve Regina is a Marian hymn, and is sung during many different Roman Catholic ceremoies in Spain, where the Marian devotion is specially strong. It can also be prayed at the end of the praying of the holy rosary, wcich is a Marian devotion.
