So this initiative is going to be voted on by Californians in November.
It will split California into three states: Northern California, Southern California, and New California.

They are made up of:
Southern Cali – San Bernardino, Orange, Riverside, San Diego, Imperial, Inyo, Mono, Kern, Tulare, Kings, and a bunch more small ones
~13.9 million people

New California – Los Angeles, Ventura, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Monterey, Santa Cruz, Santa Clara, and San Benito counties
~ 12.3 million people

Northern California – San Francisco, Sacramento, Contra Costa, San Joaquin, Calaveras, Alpine, and everything North of those.
~ 13.3 million people

What does Jow Forums think of this? If this passes I would be a citizen of Southern California, and I'm going to vote for it. This state is way too damn big, and I think the way these borders would be drawn is OK, even though it would give four more probably liberal senators. The people in orange county and the Inland Empire have fuck all to do with San Francisco or Sacramento, it's a nine hour drive between them, and when you pass through from San Bernardino into LA County it's like you're stepping into a whole new country. All of California is shit, but fuck LA and fuck San Francisco especially, I won't cry when they're not in my state anymore.
Arnold the Governator said this state was "Ungovernable" and I think he's right. Arnold sucked, and I met Jerry Brown the one time he poked his head in my area, but he sucks too. We'd get to have our own governor down here.

If anything, it'd be cool to make them have to redesign the American flag. Any Califags here? Thoughts?

There are actually a LOT of Republicans here, they're just drowned out by the sea of blue. If there are multiple Californias I've heard the argument made that it will give people a choice between which they want to live in, and actually make the governments work to make their state better to bring people in. Perhaps we could see all the blues moving into New Cali and the reds moving into the south.

There's no point. California is a mess, but it's better it stays together than separate because then they'll start making these type of state partitions for city-states and others. It's not a good idea, just create the state of Jefferson and be done with this charade.

Not likely, they would need to do it in such a way that the new states had no cities, basically no economic base. Hyper rural states don't do well.

I live in California. I'd be all for this if the part with LA spread out a little more to include San Francisco and Mendocino county. As it's drawn up now, if this happened this would just give Dems at least 2 blue states instead of one.

It's a horrible idea that gives Cali 6 senators that will always be democrats because in each of the three split states the cities on the coast will decide the color and it's always democrat.

? If you're referring to the new SoCal State having the highest population that's because the borders were drawn to include Central CA. LA and San Francisco alone have a huge influence over CA, way more than SoCal, and they wouldn't be in SoCal in the new state.

California is only that strong economically because it's part of the US. On its own it would immediately fall apart, because they wouldn't have access to the US market and they can't get workers from the rest of the US. They also wouldn't get funding for many of their projects from investors from the rest of the US (Wall Street).

They would have to start figuring out how to build their own army with their own population and equipment (or buy the equipment from elsewhere). They wouldn't be the state that gets a lot of the transit money on the west coast of the US.
