As soon as they started breaking them down stuff like Zollverein you really started to see the beast in Germany get unleashed industrially, their problem was mostly internal and due to a lack of cohesion if anything, considering by the time they fully formally united in 1871 they were industrializing at an insane pace and had a fully national common market and by 1900/1914 were arguably better off economically per capita than Britain/more industrialized.
