Take a look at Occasia-Cortez's platform. The notable thing for me is that it's 70+% traditional left ECONOMIC issues - old school class warfare stuff, not something I expect Jow Forums to agree with but hardly third wave feminist dogma. I know the 'abolish ICE' stands out, but that's not the same thing as open borders - there are real criticisms of ICE for being a basically a mafia, (ditto Homeland Security) whose job could be done much better by less corrupt law enforcement. Most importantly, it's not anti-white: indeed, this is the kind of left-wing populism that is a direct shot at the midwestern (white working class) voters that flipped to Trump because bicoastal elites don't give half a shit about them.

After the twentieth century, we shouldn't even be having this discussion. Capitalism has made America the richest superpower with the best lifestyle, most freedom, most social mobility, and most progress in the history of man. My father lived in poverty during the Great Depression and both my parents were the first in their families to attend college; I have a PhD and live in absolute luxury compared to any time in the past.
Socialism, on the other hand, remains the paradigm of failure. Venezuela attests to it even today, as does Cuba. Even Bolivia, which practices a less fiscally-obscene version of socialism than Venezuela, remains a hollow economy. Look at the economies that abandon socialism, like China (more a fascist model than anything else now), or ask anyone who grew up in Eastern Europe behind the iron curtain, and you'll find that experience teaches one to loathe socialism.

It's got real problems too, and for a lot of people those problems are serious enough that they're ready to set fire to the whole thing. IMO it's a choice between 'This is fine' establishment bullshit and some flavor of populism, and clearly Jow Forums is a right-wing populist board. I don't expect anyone here to embrace the tenets of democratic socialism, just to consider that the left and right wing strains of populism 1) have a lot of goals in common, despite being diametrically opposed in other ways, and 2) don't stand a chance against the establishment on their own. There's a quote from the Macron campaign in France a while back, some rich backer pointed out that 20% of the far left and 20% of the far right 'just don't get it' and basically need to be excluded from power entirely. No one is going to be forced to not be an uneducated homeless bum if that's what they really want in their heart of hearts. More importantly, there's lots of evidence that providing a public option in housing, healthcare, employment or education does not cause the private sector in those industries to spontaneously evaporate. It CAN do so if that's the goal, but if you keep the subsidies to a reasonable level it just keeps the private sector honest.
But yeah, at some level socialism is about giving nice things (food, a roof) to people that the right consider undeserving. That's a values thing, that people can disagree about in good faith.
I don't buy the 'multiply at a murderous rate' argument, though. People who are comfortable and secure have less kids, not more.

Since you don't seem to understand what I am getting at, let me try and simplify:
Let's assume we have two people, Tim and Moe.
Let's assume there are only two possible preferences, time and money. Obviously there are near infinite preferences in reality and they differ for all of us.
Tim has a high time preference; this means he prefers spenfing his time on his hobbies instead of things he'd rather not be doing (work).
Moe has high money preference; he prefers having a lot of money instead of enjoying his free time.
Socialist punish Moe (by taking his money, and thus also time, in the form of ever increasing taxes) and reward Tim (by giving him free money on top of his free time).
How is this fair or desirable? It isn't, especially when you consider how many more preferences there are next to just money and time.
