In NJ, this type of event is covered under FMLA.
She just had to give notice that she was taking protected leave (which from her text she would have qualified if she applied for it).
Not all states have this.
If her employer terminated her employment, she'd be eligible for unemployment insurance.

I care about my family. I would leave my current job in a heartbeat if I got a better offer from another employer that allowed me to provide a better life for myself and my family.

That's just the way the real world works, friend. Everybody, whether it's the employee or the employer, does what is in their best interest. That's the whole reason this lady is completely ignoring her professional obligations, it is in her and her family's best interests to stay at home and take care of her son. And it is in her employer's best interest to fire someone who can no longer make her business money (which puts food on the table for the employer and HER FAMILY) and replace them with someone who can actually work. Again, that's just the reality of the situation.

But I was wrong, apparently FMLA would require the employer to give the employee leeway for family medical emergencies if they were a larger business.
