She is telling me that Rap will be dead by next year. She claims that it is an artificially inflated genre that only a small number of sub-humans legitimately connect with.
I think I agree with her. Rap has begun losing it's edge, that is why they keep doing more radical things. Like the "This is America" video, or Nicki Minaj's new videos which are basically soft-core pornography.

Rap is in the hair metal stage of rock I think. Trap and soundcloud rap = hair metal because it relies on over the top colorful image and poppy music, it's considered novel now but it'll be regarded as very dated in a few years. Then some Death Grips type shit that combines rap with punk and noise rock may become the mainstream sound and the equivalent of numetal/grunge, then it dies shortly after that once it gets to the buttrock post grunge stage.

Expert here. I've been a rap fan and following it all my life (classic hip hop, new rap music, soundcloud rap, mumble rap all that) and it has reached it's peak culturally, I agree. A lot of the creativity has been drained from the genre. I see so many music videos where it's obvious people just make songs just to do it, they sound like literally everyone else and think they're still contributing to the genre, somehow. It's really weird, I think it's a case of people not being able to think for themselves trying to be creative, they can just imitate what they see other people do with very little self awareness and actual thought going into it. Also, rap was always about image but that has been especally true in the last few years and that always gets old to people. There are still good releases coming out from independent artists, but you really have to know where to look because the latest migos single is likely never going to be that good.
The next genres to really make it big are going to be house / deep house / techno, in my opinion.
