Communist rebels reject Philippines’ conditions for resuming peace talks The Philippines government set fresh conditions Thursday for resuming peace talks with communist rebels, drawing a quick rejection from leaders of the nearly 50-year-old insurgency. The rebels would have to drop collection of a “revolutionary tax” from businesses and demands to be part of a governing coalition, AFP reported. President Rodrigo Duterte’s peace adviser Jesus Dureza also said talks would need to move to the Philippines from Europe and rebels would have to live in special camps. “The doors for peace negotiations with the communist rebels are still open,” Dureza said. Duterte called off negotiations in November and formally designated the Communist Party and its 3,800-member armed wing the New People’s Army as “terrorist organizations.” dailymail.co.uk/wires/afp/article-5921241/Communist-rebels-reject-Philippine-govts-new-demands.html

?Group of migrants brought to Malta on private rescue boat leave for France The first group of migrants from a private rescue boat that Malta agreed to let dock if they were divided among several countries left for France on Thursday aboard a commercial flight, AP reports. French Interior Minister Gerard Collomb welcomed the arrival of 52 refugees who had been among 234 people who reached Malta last week aboard the Lifeline. Collomb said the operation “shows France’s very concrete solidarity with its European neighbors in the front line for sea arrivals” of migrants. The French Interior Ministry said those arriving in France had been identified as needing asylum. In France, they will be given housing and lessons in the French language and values as part of integration efforts.
>TURKISH-BACKED MILITANTS CAPTURE SYRIAN POSITIONS NEAR AL-BAB BUT THEN WITHDRAWS
On July 5, militants of the Turkish-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA) launched a surprise attack on positions of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in the village of Tadef in the northern Aleppo countryside. According to Syrian opposition sources, the militants captured large parts of the village, which is localted just south of the Turkish-held city of al-Bab.
As a result of the attack, seven militants were injured and a small unit of the SAA and the National Defense Forces (NDF) withdrew to several positions around the village.
Few hours later, the Syrian pro-opposition news outlet Enab Baladi reported that the militants withdrew from Tadef, after receiving threats from several FSA commanders and from the Turkish military.
According to opposition activists, the attack was carried out by a group of former fighters of Turkish-backed Ahrar al-Sharqiyah led by a radical commander named “Abu Khula”. The aim of the attack was to support the militants in southern Syria who are struggling to the stop the SAA’s advance.
Many pro-government and opposition activists criticized the attack as it represents a major violation of the Russian-Turkish-Iranian de-escalation agreement in northern Syria. The collapse of the agreement may result in catastrophic humanitarian situation as northern Syria is hosting hundreds of thousands of displaced civilians.
>IS CLAIMS FOUR U.S. SERVICE MEMBERS KILLED IN IED ATTACK IN DEIR EZZOR
On July 4, ISIS fighters ambushed a convoy of the US-led coalition in the village of Namliyah near the key town of al-Suwar in the eastern Deir Ezzor countryside, according to the ISIS-linked news agency Amaq. The convoy was reportedly hit with 18 IEDs during the ambush.
Amaq claimed that four service members of the U.S. Army were killed and several others were injured as a result of the ambush in Namliyah. However, the local news outlet Deir Ezzor 24 reported that only two personnel of the coalition were killed.
>“Heavy shooting followed the explosion [of the IEDs], clashed erupted between ISIS fighters and personnel of the [US-led coalition] patrol, after that ISIS fighters managed to escape towards the [terrorist] organization’s positions in northern desert,” a local source told Deir Ezzor 24.

At this point negotiation between the US and Syria is a waste of time, two years ago this might have been a consideration on the part of the Syrian government, but at this point it's useless. Daraa was one of the last cards the US had left to play, and they folded because they had no more leverage. They can't do anything about Idlib and that will just leave their puppets in the east, and we've seen how quickly they ditched them before. If the news of the SAA and kurdshits possibly coming to an agreement is true then the Kurds have rightfully seen the writing on the wall and will begin a slow pivot towards attempting some sort of political reconciliation with the Syrian government, knowing it's their only chance at salvaging what they've gained so far.

>Man jailed for Isis fundraising felt ‘guilt’ over western lifestyle
Hassan Bal’s attempts to raise funds for Islamic State (Isis) came just months after he had failed to get to Syria to fight for the extremist Islamic organisation following a period of radicalisation born out of guilt over leading a western lifestyle, his sentencing hearing heard.
Supt Anthony Pettit told Waterford Circuit Court how Bal had tried to go fight for Isis in Syria in April 2015 but had only made it as far as Turkey being stopped by Turkish authorities at Ataturk Airport in Istanbul and he was forced to return to Ireland,
>Ambassador of Venezuela: we stand by Syria in its war against terrorism
“The terrorist attack on Syria is very similar to that fierce attack on Venezuela sovereignty and internal safety,” Saab said during a celebration held in Damascus on Venezuela national day.
He was confident Syria would come out victorious in the war on terrorism.
>For his part, Deputy Foreign and expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad affirmed that enemy of Syria and Venezuela is one, which is Israel and its obedient servant, represented by the US.
He added that when Syria stands against terrorism in defense of the humanity, it also stands by people of Venezuela in their defense of freedom and independence.
