Politically I can understand. They were BTFO (litereally) by two atomic bombs and America reconstructed their constitution and lent them massive amounts of money resulting in the Economic Miracle of 1945-1990.
Now compare this to NZ. NZ was basically Britain in the Pacific Ocean but various reforms were made in the 70s, 80s and 90s so that we can't just export everything to Britain anymore, ceased utilising their currency and could not ask for aid such as military. Many kiwis would not consider themselves British anymore although we are directly descended from them.
But Nips oh boy. I see it in the anime, manga, and general public. When I was there, there was constant shilling for "I want to go to America" or "learn English in America" or "this is an American product, it's better!!" "My teacher is from America" etc.. Japan is the only asian country where Apple products outsell the dominant operating system in Asia, Android.
What gives? Is America Japan's only friend or something?
When you build a country up from nothing and tear down the basis of their entire religion (The emperor was a sort of god-king), the populace is going to worship their new overlord, and that overlord was America.
Jaxon Miller
Funny how Weebs are a thing in the west.
Grayson Cox
Nope So Is Akihito basically an American puppet emperor or something?
Chase Campbell
Didn't anime thrive off of piracy? I think anime started off very insular only really for Japanese consumption but then westerners said "hey this is pretty good" and started translating it.
I think even today publishers of manga or anime or even Japanese specific video games like visual novels don't give two shits if they sell it overseas (maybe if it makes more money I guess)
Matthew Garcia
Sort of? They have a parliamentary system or some shit so he has no power either way.
Wyatt Wilson
Akihito had less power than Douglas MacArthur during the occupation, and MacArthur reported to the Joint Chiefs, SecArmy, SecDef, and President. By American political succession, a President could probably add "Shogun of Japan" to his titles and be reasonably accurate.
Nolan Torres
is this you?

>be the bully that messes with a lot of loser democracies and generally weaker nations >tries to pick on the USA >gets absolutely wasted, nothing but wholesome traditions and scraps of culture remaining >no one will talk to you anymore >USA is chill and helps you out of your situation
The US is /theirguy/ without a doubt

2 reasons: 1. Little Boy 2. Fat Man.

we are basically there protectors considering they dissolved there entire military after we rekt there shit and because we made them better then ever after the war and still to this day invest heavily in them they love us because of it, wouldn't you love a country that gave you a golden age as long as japan's?
The U.S. is Japan's only genuine ally. They have territorial disputes with both China and Russia, South Korea isn't in a position to help anyone else, and neither is the rest of the world.
We're in the pacific, we're friendly, Macarthur handled reconstruction well, and the relationship has some nice economic perks both ways to boot.
Logan Perez
Nuclear umbrella and exports.
They could hate our guts (plenty in Japan and South Korea consider themselves slaves to an unjust American occupation) but in public it's all about needing a very visible counterweight to Chinese influence.
Adrian Scott
The whole god-king thing was symbolic in the first place and America looked like a bunch of retards when they took it literally and made a huge deal about it after the surrender. Their everyday religious attitude was and is based on local traditions more than anything.
Deep economic ties and tourism growth that followed post-war reconstruction. Not to mention lots of cultural exchange in Hawaii & California plus the growing worldwide mindset of English being "the" foreign language to learn. American English being at the center of it thanks to Hollywood and being a superpower
Nathan Peterson
being american is great. every shitskin (euros included) in the world worships us or is destroyed by us. catch up kids this is what being white is all about
Easton Ortiz
Because they have a great culture and are able to admit their mistakes.

Japanese will follow the lead dog if they see them being successful and prosperous, regardless of what they actually think about them.
It's happened with China, who they thought were subhuman insects. It happened with Dutch and Portuguese sailors, who they thought were barbarians. It happened with America, who they thought were savages. And it will probably happen with Russia once they get a foothold there after US collapses.
japan likes america because america saved them from total destruction. after wwii the rest of the allies (but mainly the soviets, gb, and australia) wanted to completely destroy japan and its people to prevent them from going on the war path again but america occupied the country to protect it from the rest of the allied powers. the agreement was japan wouldn't have an army of their own but america would defend japan. the japanese at the time were obsessed with honor so they owed america some kind of honor debt for sparing them.
just read horton hears a who, it's an allegory for the post-war politics in the pacific. horton is america and the rest are pertty obvious.
Caleb Robinson
This, we defeated their god and now we are it.
Noah Gray
Japan respects a nation that can win a war
Don't forget the emperor still sits on the throne and Japan is still 99% Japanese you fool.
Vegeta only respects Goku after Goku and his friends gang up and defeat Vegeta in battle.
you clearly know nothing about the japs then, the average jap had cyanide the king told then to use as a divine directive if they were captured after attempting to kill them as also divinely directed by the king, you might want to learn more about pre-1945 Shintoism.
Blake Wilson
>so they owed america some kind of honor debt for sparing them.
So Japan is Chewbacca and America is Han Solo?
Ethan Barnes
Japan is Vegeta and America is Goku

This, as well as the fact that all of their men died in WW2.

>flashback of a young Japanese girl sucking my dick many years ago Regardless of fond memories, I wish they would attempt to nuke us in revenge, we would retaliate, the whole world would get in on it, and before you know it, we'd all be dead. Oh, that would be nice.
Colton Carter
We love America we sniff your panties just dont make boom boom again *monkey nip screeches*
That doesn't even argue what I said and your high school comprehension of "the japs" is clearly based on World History textbook footnotes if I'm being generous. Shinto during that period was a national symbol utilized by the government to invoke sentimental patriotism and, while widely recognized, held no actual influence or authority like, say, the Catholic church once did. Loyalty and honor suicide have nothing to do with divinity; in fact, they stem from the militaristic culture that existed to counterbalance the religious culture that was rather weak and self-indulgent when it came to governing. You might want to learn more about history viewed from more internal perspectives.

Explain why the Emperor was the only one able to end the war, then Hirohito was undeniably THE leader of Japan at the time, and his presence was highly important, cause the Americans knew that if they killed him, Japan would never give up the fight for their martyred god-emperor. You can claim that he didn't have as big as an impact as the Americans though he would, but it wasn't until Hirohito himself proclaimed on the radio that the war was to be ended that the japanese actually gave up. Shinto was just a part of the militarism of the time anyways. If you think that Shinto and militarism weren't directly fucking related then you're stupider than the guy you're replying to
I literally watched an interview with a civilian of the time and they said the emperor was a divine being to them and dictated everything to the people with his divine will and why they killed them selves in kamikaze attacks and beheaded there leaders when they lost, you should really look into it as you seem to lack the knowledge of squits of the time.
