All my life I've been told that NYC (and America more broadly) is a total shithole filled with rude assholes. Movies like Death Wish, Dirty Harry and Taxi Driver made that point clear. It was nothing compared to "Toronto the Good".
But after two days in The Big Apple, it's pretty clear that I can't for the life of me find a single asshole. Everyone is amazingly friendly and helpful to me and full of cheer, regardless of race. Moreover, the streets are really clean, there's virtually no homeless people and I feel totally safe walking these streets late at night. And where the hell are the legions of fatties? America is famous for it, right? Most people here seem reasonably fit.
It's a THOUSAND times better than my home town of Toronto, which has declined over twenty years. Toronto's a filthy dump now. It's streets are filled with degenerates, violent mental cases, and "homeless" beggars. Immigrants (half the population) talk openly of hating Canadians. Everyone's an asshole.
How did new York get so good? Tell me your secrets, America. If I can't save Toronto with your secrets, I'm moving to America!
Policies, baby, what policies did your mayors pass? How do you go from Taxi Driver mode to it's current state? I have to get my mayor to copy whatever you guys are doing
As someone who actually was born there and lives in this state you are outright lying and delusional if you don't see the problems.
James Lee
Why the hell is a leaf answering but not burgers? Ok stop and frisk. So cops can do it to anyone for any reason? Or no reason? And that really reduced crime in NYC?
YES. ALSO THERE ARE LOTS OF GARBAGE CANS TO REDUCE LITTERING.
Bentley Morgan
Even cops were really friendly to me. And black janitors and randoms on the subways. So where do I have to go in NYC to meet assholes? To see homeless guys begging on every corner? Tell me an I'll go today.
New York is awesome- but don’t get carried away about the cleanliness of it
Carson Brooks
this seems like pasta. posted by a leaf as well, yeah its a shitpost
Jacob Ward
This. New Yorker here. We are headed towards lawlessness again with Cuomo and the end of Stop And Frisk. Trump had much to do with NYC's recovery during the era of Rudy Giuliani era. There's a decent documentary covering this on SoiFlix
The city isn't great. Nobody looks up or makes eye contact. NYC is basically a storage area for undesirables and their pets. The tourist areas are kept clean but these are very small parts of a large city. Visitors are kept to the polished areas of the city. In those areas, it's safer to talk at night because they're packed with other tourists.
Leo Baker
Don't be stupid. Toronto has tons of cans too. They just never get emptied and are always overflowing. I should do a photographic comparison of the two towns to shame Torontonians into action.
Technically not new york since I'm from staten island but the city is so shitty I never go to eat unless I'm going to the intrepid.
William Peterson
>he streets are really clean, there's virtually no homeless people ??? im from NYC and this is not true it's actually gotten MUCH worse over the pasy 6-ish years. homeless population at al time highs smoking weed and crack right outside penn station on 31st & 7th homeless nigger on 30th by the police precinct masturbates every morning as i walk past him ive seem dog shit and human shit everywhere smells like shit from the sewers on every block THE fuck were you???/
They herd tourists into areas around Times Square and popular buildings. They don't understand how large the city is. NYC has gotten far worse during Obama years as he emboldened criminals. I'm from Long Island and can't even venture into the city anymore. It disgusts me. Everything smells like piss.
Connor Watson
He gave them 1 way bus passes to fucking upstate and we've been dealing with it ever since, been trying to push these wastes to Vermont with some luck.
Jayden Stewart
I have visited america a few times. It is so much better than Canada. In many ways. I would love to move there, but its hard to do so legally. I will keep trying though. Maybe one day.
Zachary Parker
>wrong parts of town >tourist locations are not a proper example
Robert Harris
>You can literally see the garbage in this image. Neatly bagged at the side of the road. I'm talking about litter, trash on the sidewalks that you walk through. I'm ok with garbage that's bagged for pick up. Not ideal, but NYC still cleaner than Toronto
>THE fuck were you???/ Manhattan. I've explored battery park up to Korea town. I didn't see any crazy shit there. Will have to visit that police station to see your friend. Will do midtown today.
You're right. Upstate is fucking ruined too now. Albany is a mess. Get me the fuck out of this state. On a positive note, a recent ruling bars all federal grant funds to sanctuary states. NY will have to play ball with the federal government or raise taxes. We are already on the brink of hanging politicians for taxing us to death so they'd be wise to lower them. Hopefully the deportations start soon.
Carson Nguyen
Goddamn, Toronto must be truly fucking dire for you to think NYC is kind and clean. Sincere condolences.
Jackson Lopez
Quiet leaf! We don't want the yuropoors to find out!
Canada must be a shithole if you thought NYC was a paradise. But glad you enjoyed your visit.
Colton Lewis
>be me >from the worst part of the us by far >hear everyone from different states on here say their states of full of the same shit I have to deal with in new york
New York is an utter shithole. You've just not been there long enough. Not to mention the Kvething and self-importance that is more akin to parochialism that any form of modernity.
t. did four 3 months internships there.
Grayson Stewart
>this seems like pasta. posted by a leaf as well, yeah its a shitpost
What seems like pasta? There's no pasta in this thread.
Nolan Allen
Depends on what part of the city you're in. A 30 minute walk and you'll go from the nicest city you've ever seen to clenching your pistol waiting for something to happen
Jack Cooper
yeah I visited nyc earlier this year and it definitely isn't as bad as people say it is.
Ayden Walker
>Canada must be a shithole if you thought NYC was a paradise. But glad you enjoyed your visit.
I'm loving it. Feels great to be in a civilized city again. Will be here til Sunday. I'm going to read up on Giuliani to figure out how to save Toronto, if it's not too late already.
>Not to mention the Kvething and self-importance that is more akin to parochialism that any form of modernity. You sound insufferable. Thank God you went back to Europe.
>Sincere condolences Thank you. Breaks my heart to see my home town transformed into such a festering shithole.
>Movies like Death Wish, Dirty Harry and Taxi Driver made that point clear. >movies made in the 70s and 80s that heavily exaggerated the bad points of new york for cinematic purposes don't reflect how the city is today
>Go to East Harlem after dark I will do this. And I will be unharmed. Great people in east Harlem. The best.
Julian Lewis
harlem/queens/brooklyn are filled to the brim with niggers
Jordan Taylor
did you leave the tourist areas?
of course the areas filled with rich people or those trying to farm you for money are nice
hell's kitchen these days is the nicest place, not so long ago
go to an outer borough, get a feel for real ny
Grayson Johnson
>>Movies like Death Wish, Dirty Harry and Taxi Driver made that point clear. >>movies made in the 70s and 80s that heavily exaggerated the bad points of new york for cinematic purposes don't reflect how the city is today
And yet they reflect how shitty Toronto is today. So no, i don't think they're all that inaccurate. Especially Taxi Driver. Every older new yorker I've spoken to said that that depiction of NYC was pretty damned accurate. The murder rates were literally 9 times higher then. This is only one generation ago.
Dylan Brooks
Try arguing with a New Jersey interstate bus driver, holy fuck are they rude....
Jackson Long
>he thought people saying it's the best city on earth and the best country on earth was just a meme
If you can get past the liberal art hipster douches, NYC is the best city on the planet.
Ethan Foster
>go to an outer borough, get a feel for real ny
If I had to go to one area in one borough to see real privation, which should it be?
Jace Campbell
>go to an outer borough, get a feel for real ny Literally true of every bigger city in the world
Chase Rivera
Ok, well guilianni kicked the scum out of Manhattan, then Bloomberg raised the cost of living there so high noone south of 100k a year could live there. Rich ppl don't Rob each other, noone has cash on them now.
Also a dirty secret is that all of ny besides the borroughs is conservative, these conservative counties actually have budget surpluses. Somehow these surpluses go to NYC. It's why we were throwing the I dea of a constitutional convention around, but realised there were too many career Democrats in power to make it work. Too big of a gamble.
Landon Allen
Intrepid is awesome, that fucking sr71 blackbird is the icing on the cake. Staten island fren.
Alexander Hughes
Lol this
Adam Carter
tourist goes to tourist only areas filled with tourists I think this answer your question,
NYC is huge, and you saw the good part. Every american city has a good part for tourists. NYC is just so huge that the good part of it is probably bigger than whatever shithole you come from.
Noah Price
>Moreover, the streets are really clean stopped reading
I visited in 2016 and it was the most disgusting place ive ever been to, the smell of garbage cooking in the sun and the stench of nigger piss was ever prevalent
Julian Lewis
Rudy Giuliani is the only correct answer. Bloomberg maintained it and DeBlasio is driving it into the toilet again.
Joseph Rogers
I went to New York recently. It's an amazing place. It really feels like the heart of the world.
Jaxson King
The High Line in the fudgepacking district is a nice walk too. Lots of weird art - more hilariously pseudointellectual than thought-provoking.
I was there during US summer and man, that city is surprisingly hot. Felt like I was still in Australia.
Carson Thomas
Dirty Harry was set in San Francisco
Jackson Peterson
All cities in North America suck except for New York and Montreal. Toronto is probably the worst one.
Isaiah Evans
I was in NY for a handful of hours and it was horrid. Trannies and whores everywhere. Whores cleaning themselves in public bathroom sinks and addicts groaning in the toilet stalls. Homeless people sprawled on every corner. The stench of mutts and niggers all around.
Jaxon Gonzalez
It’s called TAXING THE FUCK OUT OF YOUR PEOPLE AND USING UNNECESSARY BILLIONS OF DOLLARS TO DO IT!! Listen here faggot, you’re in fucking Manhattan the crown jewel to this shit city... which has been rebuilt by the Jews and Satanic empire on top of the bodies of prostitutes and 9/11 victims. Mid town/uptown/ and some parts of downtown are okay. Take the MTA (metro) and you’ll see how dirty it gets. Take the one line around 8 P.M. uptown. Go to Harlem or Washington Heights at night and you’ll see. If you haven’t been robbed or your asshole hasn’t been raped, take the 6 train to the Bronx and get off by Pelham Bay Parkway. Dominicans, Puerto Ricans, and other dirty big/spics make these areas trash. These fucks have no sense of community. Once you’re done playing in NYC’s open garbage pit come down to Brooklyn in Williamsburg or by the Williamsburg Bridge and look at what Yuppie finger painting on top of ruined buildings look like. They think it’s great but you need real money like Dumbo or LIC to make it look good. Take Atlantic ave down and you’ll go through all the hoods you need to; you’ll see what the mighty “black man” has become
After the Barclay Center it’s all down hill and filled to shit. Take the ave I told you all the way through and you’ll go through East New York and up in Queens. You’ll be appalled to see how dirty these fucking spics, Jamaicans, Guyanese, and all these fucking shitskins make their communities when it’s just their demographic in the neighborhood. Richmond shill/Ozone Park is called “Little Guyana”. You’ll see why. Roti, trash, and curry smelling up the whole block and all your neighbors are into it. They don’t know how to drive, double park wherever they want, stop wherever they want, and don’t pick up after themselves. It’s a fucking disgrace because these neighborhoods used to be fucking beautiful and filled with beautiful people. So if you keep taking Atlantic ave down, you’ll end in Jamaica (the town) by the LIRR. Make a left down Sutphin. “Your pussy smells like Sutphin and Archer”. We used to say this to the thot’s because nothing smells more like fish and shit then the cross section of Sutphin and Archer. Keep going up Sutphin and you’ll see a courthouse with no public parking, because if you live in Queens, have jury duty, and pay 30% or 40% taxes on your income...well fuck you! You don’t need Public Parking just pay $30 across the street you broke fuck. Now that you got past that, when you hit Hillside Ave, make a right turn. You are now entering little Bangladesh. Like the Guyanese, they are smelly and dirty. The good thing about Guyanese is that they’re Hindu and nice and can speak two words of English. Bengali’s on the other hand, are introverted, stay and operate and distribute wealth only to Bengali’s and their organizations, and don’t speak English. Almost all Bengali’s are Muslim and have radical beliefs. Their daughters are westernized and whores, but are liberal and still consider themselves Muslim when we smoke weed and fuck raw. Take hillside ave all the way down to 212th street
>All my life I've been told that NYC (and America more broadly) is a total shithole filled with rude assholes. Movies like Death Wish, Dirty Harry and Taxi Driver made that point clear. It was nothing compared to "Toronto the Good".
That's because those movies were during the NYC crime wave in the 70s. It used to be a lot worse. It also takes a ton of effort to maintain its current position. There's always like a dozen cops on every street corner, and of course gentrification of the entire city (or rather, the entire place being so fucking expensive) helped curb the problem too.
It's no detroit or baltimore. That said, I'd still say NYC is a shithole in a cultural sense, just being a giant shopping mall for the entire world.
Elijah Rivera
Hillside Ave and Jamaica Ave are why Multiculturalism do not fucking work. When you hit 212th street, make a left on the highway and get on the Westbound GCP. Congratulations you just completed the Shit Marathon NYC
All things aside, there are some cool gentrified places in the boroughs that are great to visit
it's a good fortune myth where if you fondle the bulls balls(the bull standing for a bull economy which means a rising economy) you will get good fortune in money.
Nolan Robinson
>leaf 'learned' from the tv Retard
Jack King
The OP probably only visited Manhattan. The rest of jew York is a complete dump.
Christopher Mitchell
your frame of reference is retarded- those ARE assholes. Go south, or to rural tradcity. people will cook you food and not let you leave
Jason Rivera
Why do I feel like this is just a burger who couldn't handle the muttposting anymore and started larping as a leaf? Give us some photos of the non-tourist areas. Or at least show us some non mediocre buildings.
It's a good city, most of the assholes are drivers. God forbid you take longer than half a second to react to the light turning green. Also depends on the burrough you are in, slummier ones require bars in every window (a clear sign that the surrounding inhabitants are civil).
Owen Sanders
Dude, you just set up my itinerary for the next day. I want to check these places out, so long as I don't get stabbed or robbed. I'll take photos and post em in this thread if it's still up. I'm sure I'll be safe. New York is the safest town, statistically speaking. I honestly feel that Toronto is worse for crime.
nyc is both great and also fucking terrible. you're in midtown so your seeing the "white" part of town. go past columbia university and it gets prety nasty real quick. not to mention the place smells like piss and feces 90% of the time. if you want something fun to do go to a classical concert at lincoln centre or seee some neato paintings at the met.
Ethan Lewis
>wow Manhattan is so clean compared to the GTA! Yeah no shit you’re in Manhattan. Go to Brooklyn or Queens and tell me that shit is better then even Scarborough or Etobicoke. Maybe it’s better then Oshawa, the crack pipe of Ontario, but not by much.
Kayden Stewart
All cities were dirty shitholes in the 70s. The movies you listed just happen to portray those cities accurately at the time
Kayden Wright
Manhattan is safe sub 130th st. The Bronx and parts of Brooklyn are dangerous. There’s a reason tourists places are safe, that’s why they’re tourist attractions.
Levi Sullivan
It's New fuckin' York, the city where everyone wants to be and the de facto capital of the world. Everything you need at any time of the day is there and available to you. It is the beating heart of the American culture and the city most people think of when they imagine American dreams. Why would you not on some level be happy to be there? Also there's a rich history in NY and a definite culture. That makes people feel like they belong, they have an in-group despite the stresses of city living, and in turn this makes people feel good.
