I'm a bit confused because when you enlist your immigration processing is done at basic, I got my citizenship when I graduated basic training.

I guess the people being discharged are the ones who don't actually apply for the citizenship and yeah fuck those guys because they can't deploy since they can't get passports.

Every applicant needs to be comprehensively screened for their personal background clearance. Even for non-secret security clearances, they need to interview a number of people from your past and go through a thorough check to make sure you aren't a criminal or have severe personal debts that would compromise you as a member of the military community. If you're a Pakistani who showed up on a work visa in 2012 and married a local Paki girl for citizenship, they still need to have a member of the intelligence community fill out a comprehensive screening on all the people you reference, as well as check your criminal and financial history.

It's hard enough for an American-born citizen over the age of 22, with a few speeding tickets and maybe a bad loan, to get through the process quickly. Now imagine they're trying to clear your background in a country that doesn't have a very good record keeping system, and where it can be really hard to actually find the people you reference, or have good faith that they're telling the truth.

The MAVNI program was shut down a while ago because it took something like 100x the manhours to pass a single candidate than it did for American-born citizens. It's just a waste of the military's time, especially when you consider that even after a thorough check, a large amount of recruits are rejected anyway.

It took me 18 months to get in because I have pins in my arm from a bike accident when I was 12. Now imagine I'm from Lahore and my uncle works at the mosque a noted terrorist studied at, or someone mentioned that I'm in hoc to a local strongman who expects me to pay him back at some point.

I know a Nepali optician who enlisted two years ago. He said it took him four years to get in, and his record was perfect and his family is exceptionally well achieving for his region. This isn't a racially motivated decision, it's simply trying not to waste time and resources.

The story is bullshit.

What's actually happening is literally what's been going on forever, but moreso after 9/11: immigrants sign up but the military must check them for security clearance applicability. In rare cases, there are red flags OR they cannot verify the person's identity (usually because the country they came from is a shithole with no functional government) so they get discharged.

That's literally all that's happening here. It happens to less than 1% of immigrants who enlist but it happens. Always has.

Lel it took me a bit to order my medical records from back home but it took like 3 months for me to enlist from when I got my green card.

My secret clearance is still pending though because some people move and I have to get more up to date info. Kinda lame, but as a non citizen I could only join MOS that didn't require security clearance.

These aren't soldiers. They're foreign nationals (Chinese) using student visas, joining the army reserve to become officers in OUR ARMY. They are all fucking fifth column.

There is no comparison to the French foreign legion here. Legionaires don't get citizenship for years and they see HEAVY action in places the French can't officially be. They're a legit suicide squad. Compare this to some army reservists that go on vacation in Arizona two weeks a year.
