What's stopping us?

What's holding us back from shooting into the stars and spreading our greatness across the stars?

How can we accelerate our progress towards space colonization? Who, or what (or both) is preventing us from achieving the next big step of scientific and cultural advancement?

I do this at least once a day

How are these groups holding us back, and if they're actually doing this, how can we roll back their efforts to stifle us from progress?

who will pay for it? Why do we need to do it? why not spend the money on fixing the earth/feeding people

costs. why would you want to go to mars? how would you make any money? who cares?

Attached: 30454984.png (499x480, 340K)

we cant even run a planet. how we gonna manage more than one?

A. Because I doubt all the problems on Earth will ever be entirely fixed, and b. being able to establish a colony on mars that could eventually become self-sustaining checks the next box for humanities continued existence.

We're sitting on enough nuclear weapons to blow everything into rubble right now.

Lack of National Socialists Rocket Scientists.
And another NIKOLA TESLA

Physics.

If we found a habitable planet within 10 lightyears I strongly believe all the billionaires in the world would band together to build a generation ship and reach it.

But until then, what's the fucking point?

The point of colonization is to exploit new resources. New farmland. New mineral deposits. Etc.

I could see some limited asteroid mining in the future. Maybe Helium 3 mining on the moon or some shit.

But colonization? Never going to happen in this solar system because there's nowhere to farm. There's nowhere you wouldn't be entirely dependent on advanced technology just to keep you alive.

Maybe. MAYBE. You could dig caves on Ceres and convert the ice into oxygen and have some sort of self sustaining city, mining materials from the crust, farming in hydroponics bays, using solar and hydrogen for power, but you're still talking about virtually no return on your investment. I mean sure, it might be possible, but why?

No. We need a real destination. A habitable planet where on day 1 we can walk out of our ship in our shorts & t-shirts and start planting seeds. When we find a place like that, it's on like donkey kong, even if our technology means it will take 500 years to get there.

Until we find that destination it's all fucking pointless.

>being able to establish a colony on mars that could eventually become self-sustaining
Why do you believe that's possible?
You realize that living on Mars would require living in the equivalent of Fallout vaults right?
Why not just build the Fallout vaults here on earth if it's nuclear war you fear? I guarantee the post-nuclear wasteland would still be a more hospitable environment than Mars.

>What's holding us back from shooting into the stars and spreading our greatness across the stars?
Physics. Also the fact that SJWs would force us to bring minorities with us, even if they didn't want to bring them and they didn't want to come. Can you imagine what a travesty it would be to live on a planet with only white people?

Attached: 4221396001_4548700379001_4548533580001-vs.jpg (640x360, 32K)

Because the vaults won't withstand a meteor striking us. At worst it's a plan B, at best it's another step in advancing our civilization to the outer reaches of space. The potential is then unlimited.
It's something that has to be done due to the sun being finite anyway. Although I suppose one could argue that given a few billion years of tech advancement we may figure out how to move the Earth wherever we want.

Earths gravity.
With rocket tech it is cost prohibitive to load material into space in order to make a better launch system. We need to bring an asteroid to earth. Or use materials on the moon and build steel space elevator there.

If we had materials in orbit we could build an orbital ring relatively quickly and lower tethers.
We need advances in automation. We also need to stop suppressing energy and propulsion tech.

Fusion would be nice. Not just nice fusion that could be built in any city would shatter all previous paradigms quickly.

Exactly right. That's what people don't really get.

There has to be an exceptionally good reason to colonize a planet or even send a manned mission.

With current technology we could easily build domed cities in the high arctic. We could harness the 6 months of light in domed hydroponic farms. They could be easily self sustaining.

But it's a longgg way til anyone is going to do that. I mean shit. Look at the population density of the midwest. Look at the population density of Wyoming.

We simply don't need to use advanced technology to colonize the Moon, Mars, or even the high arctic.

hmmmmm I wonder

We can starlift mass from the sun and add mass too it.
If we built a dyson swarm around half of the sun we could make a stellar engine and fly our solar system where ever.
We could then gather the mass needed from any other systems. Including positioning their stars in orbit with ours and fire two stellar engines at the same speed. We just need to get up there and get radical life extension.

Generation ship?
There's reports of UFOs almost colliding with aircraft on a daily basis.
We just need to figure out what that technology is.
>he fell for the 1958 CIA panel debunking meme

we had it going in the late 1960s here in the US, but when push came to shove the boomers preferred social programs and war over space travel
now our best hope are a handful of autistic billionaires

you are

we live in an age of laziness

do something

Mostly thirld world countries and other shitholes that continue sucking money and attention towards them.

We should just nuke africa, china, india and the middle east and collectively agree that that's better for everyone.

Every thread here that's like, "Why aren't we in space blah blah blah" ends up getting trolled hard by liberals saying that we need to spend such funds on feeding niggers etc. And the thing is, it's been going on since the 60s....shit won't change....

really to be honest there just isn't enough money yet. The technology is catching up very fast and we might start mining like extremely rare metals in space... but the only possible reason we would visit mars would be tourism and science. There is nothing on Mars for us really. The gravity is low, it's 36 hours for a day, you are getting nailed with radiation 24, the atmosphere is like 1/1000 or something as thick and it's mainly not breatable. It's cold, dry and clay and iron and shit is everywhere.

It fucking sucks. You'd have to build cities underneath the ground, that's the only feasible way to do it. That's why elon musk got into boring into the earth by the way.

So you'd need to have literally thousands of square miles of caves dug under mars to grow crops, to have people live and do shit.

Terraforming? haha just forget it. You literally need to increase the atmposhere an insane amount, heat the planet up etc etc etc. Hundreds of years.

>What's holding us back

Attached: 3py3ra.jpg (310x271, 25K)

This. But it's unfeasible at this point to colonise other planets and all that noise, because we still haven't solved the issues on Earth yet, like the entire continent the west has to babysit (Africa). On top of that, Earth's population is completely divided, and will never work together, so we have no chance unless we're one united world government, and we all know what Jow Forums thinks about that. Basically, even if we have the technology to do all this space shit, we aren't socially advanced enough for it

Sorry, Jew. You're stuck here with the mess your people helped make, forever.

Really space mining will be a thing with the whole ion propulsion and reusable rockets, plus webb and other shit going up. But for now until we develop some form of FTL we are stuck on earth for a long ass time. Maybe population pressure but that's like 200 years from now at earliest if you look at the curves

another space thread, nothing to see here, just a bunch of gay fish, probably. I assure you, there's no point exploring or colonizing the ocean. keep jerking off to space.

Government monopolization of the space industry for 5 decades coupled with budget cuts to NASA

Selling the Apollo tech to private companies would have spurred innovation beyond what the government was capable of.

Consider that we have millions times more computing power today than we did during the Apollo missions but still haven't landed a man on Mars

>Why not just build the Fallout vaults here on earth if it's nuclear war you fear?

make your own government and laws
choose your own demographics
take only what you want, nothing else
consider that just by selecting and decontaminating properly what you send from Earth to Mars you can make a Mars colony with no STDs in the colony population, in fact no diseases beyond a common cold or flu, no boomers, no underclass, no need to spray crops for parasites, livestock would be healthier
an entire society with people aged from their 20s to their 40s, and relatively skilled and technically inclined would grow quickly even with all the extreme difficulties of having to live in domes and underground habitats

>What's holding us back from shooting into the stars and spreading our greatness across the stars?
The enormous fucking leap in technology we'd have to make to travel between stars. Even without niggers and kikes slowing us down it would still take hundreds of years before we'd have the technology to launch some kind of multi-generational colony ship, and even then it would take at least a few more hundred years just for such a fucking ship to reach anything close to us, and I'm being extremely optimistic about the speed at which this interstellar ship could go. The fastest thing humanity has ever put into space is the new horizons probe, it could travel at 54,000 mph. At that speed, it would take about 50 thousand years for it to reach the nearest star to our solar system.

We're nowhere near being able to cover the distance between stars with any sort of convenience.

Mainly resources, radiation, mind boggling long distances and the lack of technology
That and what if something goes wrong?
They wpuld be intergenerational travelling ships, whats that do to the people who live in zero grav? And thier great grandkids? A few months is crippling
What do you do when you get there?

>Because the vaults won't withstand a meteor striking us
Bullshit.
What kind of highly unlikely monster meteor are you imagining here that would cause a vault on the opposite side of the world to collapse?

Why are you obsessing over things that are insanely unlikely to happen?

>What do you do when you get there?
crawl around like babies in the new gravity. then die very shortly after from all the diseases and germs on our new planet.

>What’s holding us back?
Death.

When an elderly person dies, it is as though an entire library of books has been burned. That one person holds so much information that they can share, use, and build on. But each of us only gets one lifetime to use it- rarely more than a century.

Now apply this specifically to space travel. Imagine if all the physicists, astronomers, areonautics experts and rocket scientists never died. Their education could build perpetually, and they would have millennia to achieve their goals. And the best teachers of these subjects would also refine their teaching skills, perpetually spreading the memes relevant for the advancement of space travel.

Cure aging, and you unlock the stars.

Retards like this.

distance mostly.

The powers that be will never allow it.
How can they control a million colonies?
They want dominion of the earth and all men, space exploration would ruin that. Its only purpose will be for spy satellites and research.

Doesn’t the number of men you have dominion over matter more than the percentage? If you are emperor of the Earth and have dominion of 7 billion, why does it matter whether or not a little colony of people exists on Mars or around Alpha Centauri?

It would only matter of that other colony was strong enough to oppose you in some way, but by then the space travel between the Earth and the colony must be streamlined enough that you can extend your control to the colony, just as you might with some unconquered portion of Earth.

*if that other colony

Its about COMPLETE dominion. You don't understand how shit fuck crazy these people are.
Every singe living human must bow, thats what they want. All men. Its satanic at its core.

Have you looked at the world recently? It's a bloody fucking mess. What makes you think you need to spread humanity to other places?

you do know real judaism is literal cannibalism and child sacrifice right? please educate yourself

>he doesn't know about the stargate

Attached: mfw.jpg (650x326, 31K)

This is the correct answer.

what's stopping us from going to mars, or other planets?
Physics!. REALITY is the only one reason why we can't go out space.

The ancients abandoned us long ago, friendo.
We haven't a star gate.

Human stupidity (considered almost infinite by some) and (((them))).

Blacks and the chinese

This
Furthermore the "we need a second colony to ensure survival" argument is bunk. No matter how bad things get on Earth it will always be much easier to build a habitat here than on some other planet.

Attached: b4f.jpg (600x451, 25K)

Nobody is working on it. Their buddy making bank scamming for cancer and drug companies. People have become more greedy than curious.

>Terraforming? haha just forget it. You literally need to increase the atmposhere an insane amount, heat the planet up etc etc etc. Hundreds of years.
>haha just forget it
No, just do it for hundreds of years.

I hate to tell everybody this but humans aren't going anywhere. Ever.

Think about it like this: have ever seen a cat sit down in a chair and use a computer? No, right? Because no cat has that capacity. No cat that well ever be born will ever have that capacity.

We're the cat, /pol. As hard as that is to accept, it's true. We might literally be surrounded with the means to achieve interstellar travel (like a cat that sits on the warm hood of a car but dosen't have the capacity to get in the vehicle and drive it down the road) but we'll never know or understand it because we don't have the capacity to.

There might be "beings" visiting the earth as we speak and no one even realizes it.

Think about it: scientists think dolphins have a "language" but nobody can understand what they're saying to each other. And that's a mammal on EARTH, never mind what some alien from another planet might be saying out in the cosmos.

We're doomed here, we don't have the capacity to sustain what we have here anywhere else. And we never will.

gauss launch system would work better, no air friction to slow it down, and it's powered by cheap plentiful electricity.
