Well, he was. Sure, he wasn't the smartest military commander, and there were several signs (including that he was raised by a single mother) that his mental health wasn't quite there, and there were multiple issues with his system and style of government... but when a man cares that much about his people to try and run out the rat bastards that turned them into little more than chattel (sexual and otherwise), and returned their hope and dignity and national pride... In that aspect he was a good man; I can admire him and appreciate what he wanted to do.
I'm not entirely convinced that the Holocaust didn't happen, but I'm highly skeptical of the original and ever-convenient premise.

Germany had been broken down into a shell of its former self prior to Hitler coming to power.
