Odin was derived from the god of the Scythians, a nomadic tribe from Asia Minor which integrated into the Germanic peoples. That's interesting and cool, although as pointed out, the Romans had libraries with many texts about their paganism (and other subjects) which were destroyed by the clash of early christianity. There are still people in Italy who worship the gods of old, but there would be less larping in general for any form of paganism if there were more preserved texts which clearly define the central tenets, ceremonies, and so on.
