Not a STEM major myself. If you plan on going to college get a degree in a field where it is a requirement for a job. Many jobs outside of engineering just are looking for credits and/or years of work experience you can always do something else.

Majoring in something like econ or philosphy is not a terrible idea out right provided you can network. I know philosophy majors that have managed to get into top tier finance out of school because they put a fuck ton of work networking. That being said, I wouldn't bet on it and if state school is where you're going, a STEM degree is probably the better route (networking is still super fucking important though and honestly the most important part of school).

Well I'm just a CS major but 8n my uni companies are competing for interns from our school so we make alot in our internships. Our school has a special internship program built I to the program though so we work full time for 6 months at a time and do multiple Internships so we graduate with 95 percent already employeed

Unfortunately I was stupid and networked out of state in a field that is equal opportunity hiring, so it didn't work out great for me.

Unpaid internships are bullshit because the "payment" is simply an opportunity which may or may not work out, even if you excel in demonstrating your skills. Payment should be rendered, even if minimum wage, to offset the risk taken by the intern.

My first internship was a 2 year apprenticeship at a research facility where I made $20 an hour.

First of all, not every blue collar job is construction. Second, the people out there actually doing work DO contribute to society, despite whatever your retarded professor may think. There is no society without guys that have the knowledge and means to actually go out and build the fucking thing.

Getting a good degree isn't easy if you're the first person in your family and social circle who has ever gone to college and are facing an uncountable amount of choices with no idea what the fuck is going on and no idea where the economy is going to go. It can easily paralyze someone and even if you do end up making a choice the chances of failing to make an optimal one is incredibly high.

My internship pays $14/hr, which is close to minimum wage in my state. That makes total sense though, if you're a recently graduated or still in college pleb, you're gonna have to start from the bottom. Unless you're a minority and you got (((recruited))) to work at Wall Street or something.
