A mono license is only £50.50/year, compared to £150.50 for a normal one. By embracing an older technology, you save money and reject a piece of modern consumerism at the same time. This applies to other areas of life and consumption as well - for example, only using a rotary-dial landline phone instead of being chained to a "smartphone."
Only gullible retards actually pay the TV license. The inspectors that they send to your house are private contractors who have no right to enter your property without your permission. When they knock at my door I just tell them to go away and slam the door on them. They can only enter your property without your consent if they obtain a court order, which they never bother to do.
Also, it's not quite as laughable when you compare our system to Germany, where their public broadcaster is funded through general taxation even if you don't own a TV. Also, the TV license means that we don't have to put up with adverts.

Most black and white TVs cannot receive a signal after the switchover from analog to digital. Most of those 8000 will be either OAPs or people that when they switched over TV, they didnt bother changing the licenses. If you are that concerned about it, just dont pay. It is only enforced by a private comapny so all they can do is send you letters and knock on your door (like anyone else). Aslong as they cannot see TV being watched and proove you are watching it live they cannot do anything involving the police. Basically what this guys says
