I grew up Roman Catholic and in a very traditional Catholic run small town. I left the Church some time ago because I could not deal with the manner in which things were so ritualistic, not for Gods sake but for the Church. The Church also preached being meek and humble and accepting that Catholics in our area were born into poverty and it was our fate and what God wanted.
It was all about the Church and what seemed to me as control over the people through religion and God seemed like a side note.
I sometime read article on how the Church is doing and what I see is a lack of faith in God from the Church leaders has torn down the Catholic religion and now the new Pope seems more a politician than a religious leader.
Yes, I'm depressed but, having been removed from the faith for a while I could almost care less. I am sadly seeing the Catholic church sink deeper into the pits of hell and further away from God every time this pope opens his pie hole.

My grandma was Orthodox baptized and practicing and I remember it used to take me to the Orthodox Church. I have good memories but didn't put much thought to faith because I was just a kid back then. Pretty much all my life I've been an Agnostic Atheist but recently after reading philosophy and theology I've considered conversion to Christianity. It's either Catholicism or Orthodoxy to pick.

If you believe the Catholic Church is the one True Church then join. This pope has not yet perverted that so the fact that he is the leader is irrelevant to its holding the Truth. That being said the Catholic Church is in turmoil at the moment and will be for probably the next 100 years so if your going to join you should be serious about it because you will be one of the ~35% of Catholics holding the Church together and rebuilding it over the next 100 or so years. Therefore you must be willing to be a true soldier for Christ. There is unfortunately not much room for more weak Catholics.
