They have no choice and must act as this edition suggests, rain is coming which means they will be trapped then it is dangerous since death could occur. They have no choice but keep try to save them.

Considering there are sections in the cave where no equipment can be worn to fit through. The kids look like skeletons anyway so having them carry tanks and weightbelts and be able to kick hard enough to get out of there is out of the question. It's dark and murky with alot of places to get stuck. It will be a miracle if one of those kids makes it out. Imagine being a rescue diver and looking at twelve dead children everytime you go in there.

So a few thoughts:
Run a tether between the non-submerged areas. This could assist the problem of them being poor swimmers as they could pull themselves along as well as kick.
Attach LED strip lighting to the tether to combat against disorientation.
Have a secondary dive team on the other end of the narrow section to assist in case shit hits the fan.
