stuff like this happens because most of these fancy adornments are made in limestone or similar rock, which are used because they are very soft and easy to work with. This makes them wear down very fast and crumble over the years. Its not about deleting the history of the building, it simply becomes too expensive to maintain the aesthetic. You would have to completely redo the stone work.

boring but you have to admit that if you live in a boring flat in a shit public housing complex at least with the right building you get a balcony and if you are on floor 1 on left building you aren't right on the ground.
I wonder how much better a lot of these 70s and 80s brutalist and modern concrete buildings would look with a good bleach based pressure wash. It isn't like an old 500 year old church were you have to make sure you don't blast of a frieze.

there used to be great architecture all over this great land. it didn't look like europe but we north americans had our own unique style. unfortunately they decided in this country to bulldoze all those beautiful old brick and stone buildings in the 70s, 80s, 90s.
check out smaller towns, they still have some of our identity left.

your parliament in Ottawa is kind of pretty. I think one problem is that your country doesn't seem to have any great skyscrapers. You have multibillion dollar companies but none built skyscrapers back when it was popular to do so in the 70s and 80s.
