Russia's new Uran-9 robot tank apparently had a terrible debut in Syria.

The unmanned tank couldn't operate as far away from its controllers as expected, had problems firing its 30mm gun, and couldn't fire while moving, amid other problems, according to Popular Mechanics, citing the Defence Blog.

Unveiled in September 2016 and deployed to Syria in May, the Uran-9 is an unmanned tank that was supposed to be capable of operating up to 1.8 miles away from its controller.

But in Syria, it could only be operated from about 984 to 1,640 feet from its operators around high-rise buildings, the Defence Blog reported, citing reports from the 10th all-Russian scientific conference "Actual problems of protection and security" in St. Petersburg.

The robot tank's controller also randomly lost control of it 17 times for up to one minute and two times for up to an hour and a half, Defence Blog reported.

Nine Civilians Wounded in Nangarhar IED Explosion

At least nine civilians, including two children, were wounded in an IED explosion in eastern Nangarhar province on Monday morning, local officials confirmed.

The incident took place in Chaparhar district of the province after an IED was detonated at a recreational area, provincial governor’s spokesman Attaullah Khoghyani confirmed.

“One of the wounded is in critical condition and all the victims have been taken to hospital for treatment,” Khoghyani said.

However, he did not provide further details.

No group including the Taliban has yet claimed responsibility for the explosion.

7 Taliban militants killed during the ongoing operations in Bati Kot

At least seven Taliban militants were killed during the operations in Bati Kot district of eastern Nangarhar province, the local officials said Monday.

The provincial government media office in a statement said the militants were killed during the operations in the past 24 hours.

The statement further added that the dead bodies of at least three militants were left in the area and some weapons and munitions were also captured.

In the meantime, another Taliban militant belonging to Qari Sajid group was arrested during a separate operation in Surkh Rod district.

According to the provincial government, the detained militant has been identified as Bashir Ahmad and two Pakistani sim cards, two mobile phones, a refugee card were also confiscated.

At least three more suspects identified as Ashraf, Anwar, and Samandar were arrested during a separate operation in Momand Dara district, the provincial government said, adding that the individuals were arrested on charges of having links with the Taliban group.

The anti-government armed militant groups including Taliban militants have not commented regarding the report so far.

Taliban commander and civilians among 11 dead, wounded in Nangarhar blasts

At least eleven people including a local commander of the Taliban group and civilians were killed or wounded in two separate explosions in eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan.

The provincial government media office in a statement said an explosion took place in Khogyani district at around 9 am local time, leaving two people dead, including a commander of the Taliban group and a civilian.

The statement further added that the Taliban commander killed in the explosion has been identified as Zabit Khan who was also famous as Zarqawi.

The civilian killed in the explosion has been identified as Hewad, the provincial government added in its statement.

In the meantime, an explosion ripped through a gathering of people in a picnic area in Chaparhar district, leaving at least nine civilians wounded.

According to the provincial government, the wounded civilians have been shifted to the hospital for the treatment.

The incident took place at around 10 am local time and at least two children are among those wounded with one of them in critical condition.

The anti-government armed militant groups including Taliban militants have not commented regarding the incidents so far.

4 killed as HIA, JIA commanders clash in Badakhshan

FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Gunmen loyal to Jamiat-i-Islami Afghanistan (JIA) and Hezb-i-Islami Afghanistan (HIA) clashed in northern Badakhshan province, killing four armed men and injured six civilians, an official said Monday.

Police spokesman Sanaullah Rohani told Pajhwok Afghan News that the clash occurred between Qari Abdul Wadud, police chief of Baharak district, who is associated with the HIA and JIA commander and mayor of Baharak district Abdul Rauf over personal differences.

He said at least four people had been killed on both sides while six civilians also suffered injuries.

In connection with the case, Mualvi Abdul Hameed, HIA supporter and Qari Abdul Wadud had been arrest and were being investigated. A team to assess the situation had been dispatched to the area.

Ahmad Javid Mujadidi, the provincial council head, said the Baharak district chief often engaged in clashes with armed men of the mayor.

He criticized the provincial administration and the police chief for playing no role to stop fighting in the area between the JIA and HIA supporters.

TIKRIT, Iraq - Islamic State militants killed three government-backed militia fighters on Monday near Iraq's biggest oil refinery in the northern city of Baiji, police and militia sources said.

Iraq declared victory in December over Islamic State, which had seized control of nearly a third of the country in 2014, but it continues to carry out attacks and bombings in Baghdad and other parts of Iraq.

20 Islamic State militants killed in airstrike by Coalition warplanes in Nineveh

Baghdad (Iraqinews.com) – Up to 20 Islamic State militants were killed Monday in an airstrike by the U.S.-led international coalition warplanes on a village in Nineveh province, an Iraqi security center said.

Iraqi website Baghdad Today quoted Yehia Rasool, the spokesman for the Iraqi Security Media Center, as saying that “U.S.-led international coalition fighter jets targeted a tunnel for Islamic State in Badush village in Nineveh, leaving 20 militants killed.”

“Troops of the Nineveh Operations Command, meanwhile, destroyed nine tunnels and found 63 explosive charges and 15 locally-made rockets in al-Salam village in Nineveh,” Rasool added.

The Islamic State group appeared on the international scene in 2014 when it seized large swathes of territory in Iraq and Syria, declaring the establishment of an Islamic “caliphate” from Mosul city.

He was a medic deployed in a minesweeping squadron to clear out the highway so the Afghan army could recapture the city from the Taliban. The Taliban ambushed his squad and in the chaos several people stepped on mines. He's got pretty bad PTSD from it

13 more Abu Sayyaf surrender in Sulu

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Thirteen Abu Sayyaf members surrendered Saturday night to soldiers in a village in Talipao, Sulu, according to security officials.

The presence of the Abu Sayyaf initially caused tension until they declared they were surrendering peacefully.

They surrendered themselves and their firearms to Lt. Col. Jessie Montoya, commanding officer of the 2nd Special Forces Battalion about 9 p.m. at Barangay Samak, Talipao town, according to Brig. Gen. Rey Divino Pabayo, commander of Joint Task Force Sulu.

Pabayo said those who surrendered promised to turn over more weapons after the initial processing at the Special Forces headquarters.
He said the latest surrender was caused by continuous military pressure coupled with allowing Abu Sayyaf members to surrender peacefully and avail of government services.

"This is a clear manifestation that we are achieving our goal of clearing Sulu Province from the menace of the ASG through peaceful means by giving them a better option and to reembrace the true essence of Islam," Pabayo said.

Lt. Gen. Arnel dela Vega, commander of the Armed Forces' Western Mindanao Command, welcomed the surrender of the Abu Sayyaf members and vowed to ensure they will get government support packages under the ‘Oplan Balik Loob’ program.

Dela Vega also urged those remaining Abu Sayyaf group members to surrender and avoid ongoing military operations.

Earlier this year, President Rodrigo Duterte visited Sulu and was presented with 70 former Abu Sayyaf members. He promised to provide assistance for those who voluntarily surrendered.

“We also urge the other remaining ASG members to do the same because there is nothing more fulfilling than to accomplish our mission without any bloodshed,” Dela Vega said
