It was akin to the wild west, in some aspects. You were essentially hoping whatever you were downloading was really what you wanted and the only real way to check was via file size. And often times you got mislabeled files or something you never asked for; like porn, yes, even kiddie porn or beastiality porn, or gore. But the internet wasn't tracked like it is now, so none of it mattered. You could download what you wanted and nobody cared. It was a wild time.
