The price of raw materials isn't the limiting factor, because they're cheap anyway. The limiting factor is how much money outside buyers are willing to spend for our product.

A weaker currency would hurt us when buying foreign goods, but it doesn't really matter because the only true excellence products we import are computers. Everything else can easily be produced internally - like it was before the Euro disaster.
Almost nobody would buy a VW Jetta if it costed the equivalent of €30K and a Fiat Tipo still costed €15K, but a ton of Germans would consider buying an Alfa Giulia, because in their eyes it'd be cheap.

Granted, I've only ever been to Krakow and Warsaw, but I highly doubt that you have something even close to what Detroit is in terms of homicide, crime etc.
Also, given the size of Detroit, wouldn't a better comparison be Lodz? Both are de-industrial cities on the wane. Most people would want to avoid both but if they had to choose, I find it hard to want to live in Detroit unless you were a giganigger.
