I speak from experience when I say that the actual money saved by making something in China is usually a tiny fraction of what you've been lead to believe. The field I specialize in frequently says that they can't survive without building stuff in China, yet the impact of moving production to the US (by most standards, the most expensive labor market) earlier this year was a few dollars on a $2000-5000 piece of equipment. It was a farce all along, perpetuated by corporate fat cats that care only for profit with no regard to sustainability.
