The biggest confusion on this board is the conflation of white with european. White is a colonial term for predominately someone of NW european heritage. Europeans aren’t white because they don’t have to be as general. French aren’t white, they’re french. Swedes aren’t white, they’re swedish, etc. and so Spaniard and Italians can sometimes be literally not white skinned, but they are white in the figurative since that they are of european heritage.
