Chinas economy will someday surpass the U.S and eventually they will be spending comparable amounts in GDP if not more. You also assume expenditure directly translates to effectiveness which is not necessarily true. The Chinese are developing land based missiles that can strike aircraft carriers as well as lower cost stealth aircraft.

China has very serious social and economic problems but they are the greatest threat to U.S hegemony and there's no question about that.

They have an extensive nuclear deterrent, unlimited reserves of manpower, a heavy industrial base and are aggressively expanding their influence in Africa and Central/S. America. They are nationalist fanatics and are playing a long game to erode U.S influence and economic power. Their goal is push the U.S out of Asia just like the other colonial powers and eventually they will probably succeed.

Regarding foreign dynasties in China that is an example of their resilience if anything. China has always had an extraordinary capacity to absorb, assimilate or expel any foreign groups that invade and they have maintained their unique ethnic and cultural identity for longer than any other group. The U.S on the other hand is deeply divided and is no longer unified by either an identity or coherent ideology so if anything I would assume the Chinese would be more likely to endure than a country like ours.
