The regulation is not the issue, its the cost. Education in the us is a better analogy, with costs going up around 18% per year. And if we are being honest, lots of endemic problems we have like people in rural areas leaving the workforce and going on social security disability benefits have their root in our bizarre for-profit medical system. Its cheaper to pay people $1500 or $2000 a month to not work and put them on medicare than to try to get them to work with medical acccomodations. We cant bend the curve on disability employment because of all the perverse incentives in the system.

I think this is roughly right. The idea itself is not bad, but the context is important. There is always discussion about how we go from where we are to where we would like to be. Obamacare acted through incrementalism, and tried to create an effective Insurance market by bringing in younger people, and eliminating the ability for companies to duck costs (i.e. preexisting conditions) the total failure of that approach has lots to learn from, not least of which is the lobbying power of the interests who are making profits from the for profit part of our current system. Short of literally blowing it all up and starting over with single payer, i dont think we will achieve cost controls that squeeze (((them)))) out of the process.
