Brazilian Portuguese?

Brazilian portuguese is beautiful it has a musical quality to it and is more wavy and warm than ours. That's how it is seen my portuguese speakers of the language.

Brazilian speak it's understandable enough if you speak a latin based language.

I worked on a cruise ship and every 5 days i was in Rio. It is the most dangerous place i have ever been to, you never feel safe lol. Everybody is trying to scam you or rob you...always! Now, I don't remember to ever have contact with anything from portugal culture that don't belong to at lest the 18th century. And I don't think portugueses have either, since they rather consume french culture, well at lest when they came to live here that's what they brought.

Anyone else think that Portuguese sounds a little Slavic? I'm on a mission to learn all of the Romantic languages, but I think I'm gonna pass on Portuguese. It doesn't sound that good. Hell, I'd much rather learn Romanian, even though it's even more worthless.

If you learn Portuguese you can learn any other Latin language much more easily.
If you learn to speak Portuguese you will understand reasonably well Italian and Spanish. Spaniards and Italians have more difficulty understanding Portuguese.

that makes sense. i was watching a brazilian movie that took place in the favelas (i can't remember what it was called) and i was thinking i'd be able to at least catch a word here or there, as i understand spanish pretty well, and i didn't understand a single word. but a guy i used to work with was mexican, and his neighbor spoke portuguese, and he said he could understand him. i met a black dude from arkansas once and i could barely understand him.

I went to Catholic school in the Philippines, so I've already got a good grasp on Latin. It'd be stupid to try and learn all the Romantic langs without knowing Latin.
