The US has 25% on vans and trucks. I am not an expert in the field so i don't know all the tariffs that are in place. but the notion that experts negotiators who work in the field all there life don't know what they are doing, But Trump does seem outright retarded (not saying you claim this, but it is what i hear from Trump). So i assume American negotiators act in the American interest (i know its not a monolith) and Europeans in Europe's interest. We always have a 1000 ways to srew each other over, we only need to find 1 way to work together for the good of both our nation, but Trumps attitude will undermine this relation tremendously.
To your second point, i do agree with that 100% and this American plebeian revolution is entirely to blame on the American establishment, they should have created more laws which would combat wealth inequality (lower the GINI). But without globalism the PIE will shrink. for me these are two separate issues, one optimize the PIE size, and two divide it well enough. And of course you would never get it perfect but to destroy TPP, to get in to trade wars with your allies is not the solution to the problem it will only make it worst. and not just financially but also from a security perspective (and less US arms market share). in my estimation the "Empire" is a bargain..
