What was wrong with the "brave new world"?

give me one concrete reason this is a bad society.

Because it's an illusion

Nothing if we are at the top

The opening of the book is a bunch of dudes standing around watching kids diddle each other.

because it would kinda such being one of the retards who get intentionally poisoned before birth
wait shit i get it now

Because everyone is completely controlled from birth, their jobs and intelligence already designated. Would you want to live in a world where you have pretty much no free will?

there is no concrete reason, thats the point of the book.

you do have free will just as much as you have it now, you've just been conditioned by the state instead of socially or by your family.

and if it leads to a life that's basically close to heaven, whats bad about that?

they fuckin injected peoples birth-pods with alcohol and shit to make them short and retarded dude

Their free will sucks, they copy the actions of others instead of making their own decisions. Doesn't sound very free to me. Sure, if they're ignorant it's perfect but it'd never function properly because some people are too smart to fall for it, as shown in the book.

All it takes is one uppity beta to fuck with the soma supply and the epsilon retards start chimping out

>you will participate in a Delta/Epsilon orgy
feels bad man

The treatment of its citizens was ideal, but it’s use of resources was wasteful

The point is that it isn't a bad society and that it's inevitable.

They're not all white
I'd be ok with it if they were white

not if grug smash flying machines

You wouldn't be the alpha, chump. You'd be a boot-licking worker drone.

because its degenerate fucking trash to want something like this. No purpose, no honor, no life, just soma and orgies. If you think that sounds good you should either find God now, or just go ahead and kill yourself.

even if I was, I would be conditioned to love it just as much as an alpha, so who cares

You're a bluepilled faggot and you should be gassed

I have my own reasons for not wanting it but I wanted to see what pol thinks without mentioning them

assholes

>Withheld technology
>People made retarded on purpose
>Hedonistic society
>Hatred of family values
>Bland life
>Small group of people controlling the world

Yep great life indeed

Because it was a world that valued stability above all else.

A certain degree of stability can allow growth, but it must be mixed with the inherent chaos of freedom. In the novel the genetic designing of humans for specific jobs, the use of drugs to control the masses, the outlawing of non-pulp fiction, and the single world polity create an atmosphere that freezes humanity at a certain state. One of the world controllers, Mustapha Mond, even discusses how they have intentionally stopped the progress of technology to promote order. This sort of society may be stable and last thousands of years in the same repetitive state, but there does seem to be something instinctively wrong about that. That instinct comes from the fact that humans, like all organisms, have a desire to grow and thrive. Thriving doesn't mean putting ourselves in stasis for the sake of survival. Growth can only happen when we as a society are allowed to mutate and change. Our destiny is not to allow earth to become our ball and chain.

And even if you don't want to do this philosophical dance with me you at least have to look at the practical fact that eventually a stray meteor of unusual size will destroy this world. The only way to achieve the kind of technology and society that can handle such a task is to have competing people, nations, and cultures engage in the messy mix of freedom and order that promotes real growth.

ORGY PORGY
WHO GONNA ORGY PORGY WITH ME!?

There is only a small pool of actual talent, if there is a problem the very small cult in control can't figure out, they just created a race of idiots who can't help them and doomed everyone anyway.

It obly makes sense if it was done with malicious intent on purpose, to destroy a society to keep it from becoming too aware or powerful.

It makes sense if you imagine there are some aliens who want earth or another slave race and bribed the cults into saving only themselves and betraying the rest of us.

It created a fragile society that was unable to cope or understand when odd things happened. Should something happen that falls outside of their normal procedure they would be unable to cope. Having to resort to taking a soma to calm them down.

Give me one concrete reason we aren’t already in that society

This. If there was an actual alien invasion, or some large natural disaster, how could individuals and groups organize themselves if cut off from the main group and supply chain? They've created an inferior minded and weaker human.

Big nose tribe not let you.

It's getting there but if enough people are aware it's reversible. This form of corruption is the most easily broken, the actual group in control is very small but they have many drones already.

>Give me one concrete reason we aren’t already in that society

It's spelled Xanax, not Soma. Bet you're feeling pretty silly right about now.

well at this point there it is no longer useful to breed entire retarded-slave classes. automation is much better.

and?
it's consensual kid to kid diddling, who cares?

Highschool was a lonely time for user

Those "aliens" you talk about describes the actions and plans of the Jews, user.

It's the world we currently live in, and I'm not really happy. Slavery through empty pleasure is the easiest kind.

I think it is implied near the end that the one savage basically destroyed their whole country. One element that didn't fit made it all crash down.

The world today is already like a mix between BNW and 1984 so what if anything can someone do to change that besides the obvious?

>A not-insignificant portion of the population is genetically engineered retards
You're much more likely to be one of these, you know, the ones that only get a brief mention while the story shifts to focus on the well off minority?

Most of the other stuff is only bad if you have you know, hopes and dreams and that sort of non-sense. These days our mindless consumer population would be quite content with BNW.

Realistically we already have a pretty solid mix of BNW and 1984 in our current reality.

I would rather live in the Dune Books or maybe an Ian M Banks Culture world

Because they threat the dying like garbage, highly degenerate, and disregard scientific progress for the most part.
Also, eugenics is almost strictly to lower the genetic quality of the vast majority of the population, as opposed to uplifting them.
The book itself is garbage with pointless slander against henry ford (most likely because Huxley had a lot of jewish acquaintances).

The society of Brave New World is vastly inefficient. An ideal distribution would actually consists of 1% Alpha men, 10% perfect waifu material that exists only to be the harem for each alpha man (10 females for each), and the remaining 89% is neutered short-lived subservient semi-retarded dwarfs addicted to working and running everywhere doing manual tasks while whistling happily. The Alpha men should have a happy life with meaningful jobs and families so the drug abuse is unnecessary and unhealthy.

Or if those islands where they send free thinking people ever went into revolt. You can't make an army out of pleasure drones that cry and get high when they face the smallest amount of hardship. And to create a seperate batch of tube babies that would serve as an army, or to recruit alphas, would ultimately destroy the social cohesion the world is built on.

It's a hugbox state

You obviously haven't read it OP - it's not a possible reality, even if desired.

ok so they make everyone alphas and they rebel when most alphas are required to do menial tasks. The deltas and the omegas were fine doing the menial work because its all they could comprehend. They did their work, got paid, went home and relaxed. The work needs to be done, and making people with a scope of intellect that exceeds it causes discord.

>Normalized pedosexuality
>free will destroyed by drugs

Did they ever mention how long people live?
I remember the savage's mother was older than what anyone ever sees, and wasnt even that old.
then a doctor also said her excessive use of soma would shorten her lifespan, so is the drug slowly killing people quicker?
They did mention that they have it down to a science, just how much work people do, when they can vacation or go on a holiday.

Could time out how long you want your subject/citizens to live, dont know if that is the intentional thought of this book.
That seems kinda bad, right?

>ok so they make everyone alphas and they rebel when most alphas are required to do menial tasks. The deltas and the omegas were fine doing the menial work because its all they could comprehend.
That was inconsistent bullshit when considering that they also rejected automation because they wanted to keep the deltas an epsilons busy.

>Growth can only happen when we as a society are allowed to mutate and change. Our destiny is not to allow earth to become our ball and chain.

You missed the point, which is that you're more likely to be one of them than one of the people who benefits from their labor.

And the "Alphas" in bnw are barely focused on in the book too. We see the complacent population who have no dreams or aspirations beyond hedonistic pleasure, not the leaders of the society pulling the strings. Excluding the elites, if you think being part of the upper class that just indulges in pleasurable distraction their whole life is desirable, congrats, you're just like 90% of the plebs in the real world.

George Orwell's 1984 is the ONLY end game to such a scenario. And real life will be worse because there were no robots in 1984 that make civilians completely and utterly useless to the elites running society.

Good thread, OP.

personal initiative is extinguished

Just one gram and you won't give a damn!

There was limited to no freedom

Animal farm and 1984 really good easy reads. It's not hard to see why they were mandatory school reading a few decades ago... not the case anymore I suspect.

>Junger Tribe
What is this?

>More Aldous Huxley
I haven't read his other works, are those two worth picking up? I didn't enjoy BNW as much as 1984 because I find A.H. writing style a bit dry. Am I missing out?

in 1984 the fella torturing poor winston admitted that it didnt matter if men only lived to be 30 and even members of the inner party lived in destitute as long as the power over their fellow men was held in strict nepotistic control.
arent stories about systems overtaking men fun

>when pedos try to push the whole "children have fully grown and developed brains and personalities and can therefore weigh the risks, pros and cons and perfectly consent to sex with a balding 50 year old man"

You know there's more to life the mear happiness and joy, there must be fulfillment. I'm currently off the summer and I decided not to get a job so that I am living that heaven. No responsibilites and infinite free time. The thing that I noticed is that though I am the most free a man can be, with no obligation to anyone, I feel empty. Doing nothing in all this time has lead me to just sit in my room and be a neet. I can't fall sleep at night and when I wake up, I have nobody to wake up to, I have nothing to get up for. Why leave the bed when my whole existence is mearly here but also nowhere. I am lost in limbo.

Man was not made to live in a constant state of ecstasy. Man was made to suffer. Through suffering you get strong men who truly can rule, not only their lives, but their communities.

Honestly, not really in my opinion. The Devils of Loudun is mostly about a man who gets charged and ultimately convicted of being in league with the devil and possessing a convent of nuns. It's mildly interesting and Huxley chooses to spend the second half of the book following the lead nun in particular as she travels around being a showcase for the rest of Europe, and a sick priest who helps her and is insane himself. It's alright if you have the time.

The Doors of Perception is pretty good so far. The thing I like about Huxley is every few chapters he will have these amazingly well written insights about religion or human nature.

>Junger Tribe
>What is this?
Sebastian Junger is a bit of a liberal cuck but this book is 130 pages and is amazing. I've read it twice. It details the missing tribal connection in our society and talks about why 3rd world countries have lower suicide and depression rates, why soldiers have such a hard time integrating back into society. How people who commit welfare fraud would be killed in tribal societies for stealing from the group, and how we've essentially lost that tribal connection and replaced it with an emphasis on individual identity and growth over the group, and consumerism.

Fascinating book and I'd highly recommend it, you could read it in a weekend.

But in those world averybody is happy with their position in society. They don't realize that they don't have free will.

I should give the Devil's a little more credit than that, a major part of the book is about how this priest I believe he was, Urbain Grandier invited his own demise by being a flamboyant playboy and hanging out with all the royalty of the city of Loudun and basically inviting his own demise by making everyone hate him.

Again it's pretty interesting but I wouldn't read it again

Might check out Junger Tribe, sounds like a bunch of shit that's already in my head, but always nice to get a fresh perspective on.
Thanks friend.

Sadly I haven't been making time for reading lately, I need to fix that.

>Now I will tell you the answer to my question. It is this. The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in the good of others; we are interested solely in power, pure power. What pure power means you will understand presently. We are different from the oligarchies of the past in that we know what we are doing. All the others, even those who resembled ourselves, were cowards and hypocrites. The German Nazis and the Russian Communists came very close to us in their methods, but they never had the courage to recognize their own motives. They pretended, perhaps they even believed, that they had seized power unwillingly and for a limited time, and that just around the corner there lay a paradise where human beings would be free and equal. We are not like that. We know what no one ever seizes power with the intention of relinquishing it. Power is not a means; it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power. Now you begin to understand me.

>making someone short was an effective means of crippling their societal progress
Even in futuristic dystopia, manlets completely btfo

Isn't everyone in the book a cuck?

Damn that makes me want to reread it.

Simply ebin passage.

Plenty of mothers already do that?

nice flag, mr. stineberg

It appears that it is already occurring with msm and social media.

>centralized authoritarian power structure micromanaging every aspect of human existance
>children grown by the state without families and raised and gene engineered for specific roles, way too much power for any government to be allowed to have
>human nature and individuality supressed
>a dull stupid species even more so then today
>even the intellectual class is ignorant and unable to question the system and government, so completely well programmed.
>thought control, speech control, no rights or freedoms only what the government allows
>humanity in total slavery to its own system, a system which inevitably becomes evil

a lot of reasons we have so many problems today is because we are moving more towards the world in that book

but you described the world we already live in...

Happiness and fulfillment don't come from a pill and busting a nut in a whore. Art doesn't come froma life of contentedness. Pain and sorrow are what makes life worth living. Without pain and sorrow you don't know what actual joy and happiness feels like. I couldn't imagine living ina hell where I don't know what actual joy feels like.

Fulfillment does not come from doing what's necessary to live. Fulfillment comes from achieving a goal you've made for yourself. Without ever being able to set a goal then how could one ever be fulfilled? If life is laid out for you then you're not striving for anything. You're simply going through the motions. Utopias are impossible and will never be achieved because they ignore the human condition.

If a utopia is possible, then it would be populated with sociopaths or people that lack the key elements that make us human. I.e. Emotion, ambition, and creativity

My friend said Marijuana is the soma of our world, and I'm starting to believe him. Not everyone takes xanax, but EVERYONE smokes weed.

you can have individuality and community mindedness at the same time. its not an either or thing. but the move from largely living in smaller to larger communities over recent centuries is going to take time for human nature to adjust to. in smaller communities that tribal connection is more closely achieved thats all. i wouldnt blame individualism, its not like you cant care about both. individualism is the counter to mainstream consensus, which is led by mainstream media, so be greatful for traditions of individuality for us even having this conversation.

You're right, individualism is not to be taken for granted, but the lack of tribal connection is what gives people such a feeling of meaninglessness and drives them to depression, suicide, or even mass shootings, in my opinion.

It's certainly not one or the other, but emphasis is put on the individual in our society in a way that removes those tribal bonds, and is also probably what leads people to join fringe groups like the ultra-far right or left.

With no old people you don't have to worry about treating them, and they probably lacked the resources to do so, seeing as they made so much of their population retarded. They would probably never be able to get enough doctors into the balance. Imagine if they actually had to treat old people and watch them die, people may actually have felt sad over seeing people decay like that. It was easier for them to just let them die.
