Combat fatigue, soldiers in older times fought less and spent times off the frontlines for far longer periods of time.

I have a few combat veteran friends. One is completely fine and has no problems. You wouldn’t even know he was a Marine he’s so nerdy.

Another is diagnosed with PTSD and manages it well.

The other feels extreme guilt over having to kill an unarmed civilian in one incident. He has not been diagnosed with PTSD.

PTSD is next to impossible to get diagnosed because it takes so long to diagnose. Most of the time, people with acute PTSD are diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder and treated for that instead. Another thing, people with clearances who experienced trauma during sensitive missions often cannot speak about it.

It's not the killing per se, more so the conditions of war, especially modern warfare which is incredibly loud and death can come completely unseen from a distance as a bullet, an explosive, etc.

Check out the number of hours spent in direct combat today vs civil war or some other earlier war. We spend 10X more time in combat now thanks to quick transportaiton to front lines and into hot spots with mobilization. Before most wars were 99% walking and waiting

The difference today is that we actually give a shit about people, where as it was easier to keep people out of sight out of mind before. Many vets with PTSD choose not to live amongst people, because crowded cities and such are full of triggers, so they isolate.

Not true. You keep extremely busy working from (haha) 6 to 18 hour days and typically you work on weekends as well.
If you get lucky you might have a cake job but no one does nothing (unless they are malingering tier people).
There are many reasons to join up. Not all are shit reasons and not all people joining are shit people.

I'd imagine because of the asymmetrical nature of the conflicts. Having to go spend a year in a shithole wasteland surrounded by locals who you have every right to believe will turn on you, fighting a guerrilla force that seems to just not ever fully die, while eroding your morale and killing your comrades.

Lots of people went nuts during/after WW1 & 2.. and probably every war before those.

It's just that they were left on their own. That may have been good in some regards/bad in others. We live in a therapeutic culture now, so 'opening up' is celebrated... being a bit more stoic was more respected in the past.

In truth its hard to say which is better. Getting 'some help' may actually be the best thing that ever happened to some veterans, and they do it reluctantly... some may just wallow in self pity and get drugged up unnecessarily with big Pharma pills... and they may have been better off just dealing with it on their own, letting time cure the problems.

The 'Psychologist/Big Pharma' method will probably win the day, because there is money to be made and both industries are jew heavy.
