Because the Church (I use that term loosely) in America likes to pretend that persecution is something that happened a couple thousand years ago in the Ancient Near East and Europe. They want their 3 point sermons based on a single out of context verse to make them feel good about themselves for the rest of the week. I stopped attending church because the services seemed so manufactured and phony for my tastes. I visited several churches and all of them were essentially the same. There was no actual study of the Bible. It was basically a motivational speech with a little Jesus mixed in for good measure. I also noticed a lot of pandering. Pastors don't like to step on anyone's toes for fear of offending people. Christ himself made it a practice to offend people. Everyone just wants to feel good about themselves, which I get, but think it's causing a spiritual drought in this country. Listen, I enjoy Christianity, in general. I just think that somewhere along the way (around the time the whole unbiblical "Sinner's Prayer" was invented) we just got too fat and lazy. Christianity isn't just hard, it's impossible. However, if all someone's gotta do is dress up and go to a church for a few hours a week to guarantee my reservation in Heaven, then they're going to do it.
