That might lead to foreign economic sanctions and/or military interventions, as well as long term social unrest. Not that America couldn't handle it, but it wouldn't be easy.

The military was specifically designed to be the goodest goyim to the government. All the generals are hand picked by the President, people going to West Point need congressional nominations. Saying something politically incorrect can get you heavily punished and ruin your career. You're legally obligated to say some good goy things if you're told to. There's no reason for them to have a coup because they're on the government's side. The military also relies mainly on financial incentives like free college, so the soldiers are closer to mercenaries than patriots. Mercenaries are what's used to put down revolutions so your own soldiers don't defect.

Realistically we're only going to take power through voting or societal collapse. Having allies in the military and military training are both extremely helpful, but it's unrealistic to expect them to change the system. If Mattis ordered a coup his most loving soldiers would arrest him.
